Did you know that the UK has the highest number of premature births in Europe?

A recent report stated that women have more premature births in the UK than any other European country.

The early births are due to stress, poor diet and nutrition (vitamins and minerals), drugs and smoking.

In Canada they have set up a structure that helps women to receive fresh food. Nutrition advice together with free and reduced price vitamins and minerals.

Therapies have been made available – such as Reflexology to help mums relax, together with information and support to reduce smoking and drug addiction.

Since they have introduced this support the numbers of premature births have reduced dramatically.

Cranio Sacral Therapy helps

Pregnancy, infertility and birth can be very emotional and traumatic for parent and child.  Emotional trauma to the body creates blockages.  Cranio Sacral therapy helps with clearing energy blockages and is therefore able to help rebalance the body.

When energy (Chi) flows through the body unhindered, health and vitality are maintained.

Cranio sacral therapy (CST) is a safe, simple, yet very powerful and effective body/mind therapy.  Small movements are made to the head and body to enable the body to realign by itself without trauma to the bones, tissues and ligaments.

It is safe and helpful for Mums during pregnancy and Post - natal dysfunctions - realigning the pelvis, clearing the effects from epidurals, post natal depression etc.,

It is relaxing and calming to the body (some even feel sleepy during treatment) providing relief from aches and pains, especially back pain, easing muscles, releasing diaphragms.

*Babies and children can receive dysfunctions from forceps or suction delivery. CST helps to realign bones and tissues after a TRAUMATIC delivery.

It is also used for babies and children who have learning difficulties and traumatic births, Colic, distressed/crying children, learning difficulties, Dyslexia, Dysfraxia, and Autism.

For more information see 'CST for babies and children' section.

Pregnancy

Pregnancy places greater nutritional demands on a woman’s body.

A developing baby totally depends on its mother for proper nutrition.  A woman lacking nutrients essential for proper foetal growth risks having a baby that suffers from low birth weight or birth defects.

We now know that nutritional needs during pregnancy are vital during this special time.

Vitamin B and folic acid is essential for proper development of the spinal cord.  Adequate iodine is essential for proper thyroid development that regulates growth and metabolism.

To prevent the developing child from depleting valuable nutrients from its mother’s resources the mother needs to ensure that she has an adequate intake of nutrients for both her and the baby.

Pregnant women need approximately 300 extra calories a day

65% more protein, 100% more folic acid and vitamin D, 50% more calcium and magnesium, 33% more vitamin C, 25% more vitamin A.

It is essential at these times that only supplements that are pure in essential ingredients: - no colourings, flavours artificial flavours etc.,  are used.

INFERTILITY

Complimentary therapy is of interest to many people with infertility problems, especially when conventional medicine has not cured the problem and, in some cases has not found the cause.

Complimentary practitioners claim most success with “unexplained” cases of infertility.  Trials have shown Reflexology has a high success rate.

Stress, tension, and related bodily reactions are believed by many doctors to be factors in some infertility.

It does seem that hormonal changes affecting various aspects of reproductive systems – including ovulation and spasm in the fallopian tubes – may be stress induced.

Most agree that reducing stress improves fertility.  Where therapies directly reduce stress, and treat the body holistically to improve general health, this may help the body to heal itself, and so improve fertility.

  • Clearing energy blockages
  • Rebalancing energies
  • Diet, nutrition and exercise also play a part to improve fertility

 Infertility

The inability to conceive can deeply challenge a couple’s emotional and physical health.  To overcome their problem they will need to take into consideration the many facets of their fertility problem and address their relationship and their needs. For the best possible chance of a successful conception, they can take an holistic approach that removes the boundaries between conventional and complementary care.

This approach utilises complementary therapies to improve the results of high-tech care or uses minimally invasive diagnostic techniques to improve the results.   Complementary and conventional treatments work well together.

It is very important to acknowledge and understand that the emotions and anxieties that arise when fertility is not as straightforward as it should be, can in themselves be detrimental to conception.  Infertility is recognised as being a major life crisis, which can cause enormous emotional pain.  Losing our fertility can be like losing our future.  We can lose confidence in ourselves, our self-esteem can hit rock bottom and we may feel incomplete as sexual beings – failures as men and women.   Life can lose its meaning and when IVF treatment is started a whole new set of stresses are faced.

Couples who are infertile, and who are also coping with trauma, are coping with loss, often more loss that most people have to deal with in a lifetime.

Consultations and treatments include all elements of life: mental, physical and spiritual.  This holistic approach is the first choice when experiencing difficulty in becoming pregnant.Trials have shown that Reflexology has helped couples to conceive.

*SER emotional release helps to remove blockages, stress and anxiety when there is no physical reason why the couple should not conceive. A combination of therapies – Reflexology, Chakra balancing and SER emotional release can be used as an holistic approach to attain conception.

Diet, together with deficiency in minerals and vitamins, should also be checked.

*SER emotional release also helps with the trauma of miscarriage and traumatic pregnancy.

Joy has already helped others with a package of treatments to aid conception.

One of the hardest obstacles a couple can face in life is having difficulty in becoming pregnant.  Studies show that one in every four couples suffer from some degree of infertility and as many as one in six couples go on to seek help from a specialist.

The availability of IVF treatments on the NHS has undoubtedly come as welcome news, but concerns about side effects and invasive procedures are encouraging clients to seek a holistic approach.

Out of medical research that has been carried out on complementary therapies, Reflexology has shown promising results.  This ongoing research is now being focused on the possible link between Reflexology and fertility problems in women.

What is infertility?

Infertility can be described as any one of the following:

Being unable to conceive after one year of unprotected intercourse.

The state of never having conceived

Having difficulty in conceiving again after having previously conceived

Total inability to produce offspring

 Infertility can be caused by:

Poor egg production due to low production of gonadotrophins (follicle stimulating hormone and luteinizing hormone).

Poor sperm production due to low production of the testosterone and gonadatrophin hormones.

Malformed sperm

Sperm life span

Antibodies antagonising sperm from the male or female

A physical obstruction between the sperm and the egg

Other causes:- Infertility can also be due to less obvious non-physical factors.  Alcohol for instance, as well as cigarettes, caffeine and poor diet, can profoundly hinder the healthy development of eggs and sperm.

Furthermore, anxiety and worry can create the very physical problems that prevent conception.  Soon enough clients find themselves in the paradoxical situation where they can’t get pregnant until they realise they need to relax and they can’t relax until they get pregnant.

Whereas physical complications usually require medical intervention, with the support of the a therapist, the client can identify and manage most psychological causes.  As the afore mentioned non-physical causes of infertility often lie in unnecessary stress and worry, Reflexology may aid conception by encouraging realization and therefore helping to reduce the stress.  Reflexology combined with a cleansing, whole food diet, exercise and rest, can help increase fertility by improving and balancing all the body’s functions in order to eliminate pollutants and toxins.

The aim is then to prevent unnecessary stress and tension returning, which as we have established, can be strongly attributed to infertility and associated problems.

Increasingly, infertile women are now trying to become pregnant with the assistance of Reflexology combined with other specialized treatments.

Women’s Health

Women suffer from all sorts of natural disorders throughout their lives.  Most of them will be hormonal fluctuations that place demands on the women’s bodies.

Monthly hormonal fluctuations take place with unique demands on a woman’s body.   It is a delicate interplay of hormones, orchestrated between the ovaries, adrenal glands, uterus, pituitary gland and hypothalamus gland that all influence well - being, mood, energy, blood sugar levels, fertility and immunity.

Causes of imbalance include over consumption of caffeine, sugar, too few healthy essential fatty acids in the diet and unhealthy dietary fat and salt.

In addition, medication including the birth control pill can contribute to nutritional shortfalls, notably Vitamin B6.

Stress can have significant effects on the delicate balance of hormones in our body.   For decades women have looked to botanicals to provide unique natural elements to maintain a harmonious state of body and mind.

Herbal products can be used, with ingredients that our ancestors discovered, such as red raspberry and chamomile.  With modern technology there are now state of the art products such as Phyto-soy, FC with Dong Quai and combination ingredients in Natural Changes that help with a women’s natural body adjustments to ageing.
