Cranio Sacral Therapy

CRANIO SACRAL THERAPY is rapidly gaining recognition as one of the most gentle and yet powerful forms of holistic healing.  It is used to detect and correct imbalances in the craniosacral system, which may be the cause of sensory, motor or intellectual dysfunction.

The craniosacral system consists of the membranes and cerebrospinal fluid that surround and protect the brain and spinal cord.  It extends from the bones of the skull, face and mouth – which make up the cranium – down to the sacrum or tailbone area.

Cranio Sacral Therapy treats people rather than conditions.  It is primarily concerned with creating a healthy balanced state on all levels – physical, mental and emotional

The therapy has been successfully used to treat headaches, neck and back pain, TMJ, chronic fatigue, motor coordination difficulties, eye problems and central nervous system disorders and much more...

How does it work?

The client lies on a treatment table fully clothed and the Therapist makes gentle contact by placing the hands lightly on the body, as well as the head and spine.

Craniosacral therapy is safe, simple, yet very powerful and effective.  Small movements are made to the head and body to enable the body to realign by itself without trauma to the bones, tissues and ligaments. In the process it eliminates symptoms, diseases, dysfunctions and their root causes.

Relaxing and calming to the body (some even feel sleepy during treatment)

Provides relief from aches and pains and traumas to the body from car accidents, falls etc.,

Emotional trauma to the body creates blockages. CST is able to help with unblocking and clearing blocked energy.

NOT JUST FOR BABIES

There has been a great deal of publicity recently about the value of Cranio Sacral Therapy for babies and children.  Their systems respond very effectively to this form of therapy and it is extremely valuable in the problems to do with suckling, hearing etc., and problems related to birth process.

Babies and children can receive dysfunctions from forceps or suction delivery.  CST helps to realign bones and tissues after a traumatic delivery.

Mums also benefit from treatment during pregnancy i.e.: - allows opening of pelvic area.

Relaxing and calming who for some are stressful times - treatment after birth helps the pelvis to be re- aligned, muscle, tissue and nervous systems are soothed and assisted for a quicker recovery.

CRANIO SACRAL THERAPY is rapidly gaining recognition as one of the most gentle and yet powerful forms of holistic healing

It is a relatively new therapy, having been developed from one of those rare quantum leaps of inspiration by its founder, Dr. William Sutherland an American osteopath.

Going completely against the established teaching of his time, in the 1920’s he recognized a subtle motion within the intricate bony structure of the skull.  He called this motion “primary respiration” believing it to be of  far more importance to our well - being rather than mere breathing

During the next 80 years more and more people were drawn to investigate this revolutionary therapy and it was only taught to Osteopaths during this period.

Dr. John Upledger (surgeon, osteopath and physician) was one of the pioneers in this field developing Cranio Sacral Therapy and has refined the techniques to its present format that now also encompasses Emotional/ Trauma release with Somoto Emotional Release. (Trials done with Vietnam veterans)

Upledger found that treatment could be used to treat defects/malfunctions involving the brain and spinal cord, plus numerous other health problems

Fortunately, with Upledger’s pioneering work over the last 25 years it has now been made more available to a wider cross section to include Therapists.  More and more people have come to realize that here is a very powerful way of bringing the body back into balance and harmony.

At the very core of the body lies the brain and spinal cord, within a bony protection and bathed in a special fluid the cerebrospinal fluid (CSF).  As the subtle movements of the primary breath take place the CSF travels along the core of the body drawn upward during ‘inspiration’ and flowing downwards at ‘expiration’.

This movement of fluid is like the movement of the oceans and has been called ‘the tide’. The subtle movement within the core of the body is taken up and expressed throughout the tissues and organs so that in an ideal body there would be a synchronised and harmonious rhythm within all the body parts.

Because our systems meet physical, emotional stress and challenge by contracting within that challenge they disturb and disrupt the flow of the tide.  It is as if the tide is flowing into a rocky shore; when it meets an obstacle, it has to find a way around.

Where the body is fully resourced the blockage is a temporary disruption.  However if the stresses are too frequent or if the shock too great, the blockage becomes gradually established and can eventually over time lead to discomfort, pain and disease

During our lifetime we will collect and disperse many different blockages; sometimes we are able to use the body’s natural processes to unblock and sometimes we need help.

The light touch of a trained Cranio Sacral Therapist is able to detect blockage and restricted flow of the fluids, reflect this information back to the body helping to gather the necessary resources to re-establish harmony.

CRANIO SACRAL THERAPY is used to detect and correct imbalances in the craniosacral system, which may be the cause of sensory, motor or intellectual dysfunction.

The craniosacral system consists of the membranes and cerebrospinal fluid that surround and protect the brain and spinal cord.  It extends from the bones of the skull, face and mouth – which make up the cranium – down to the sacrum or tailbone area.

The therapy has been successfully used to treat headaches, neck and back pain, TMJ, chronic fatigue, motor coordination difficulties, eye problems and central nervous system disorders.

Osteopathic physician John Upledger developed Cranio Sacral therapy and has taught the technique internationally.  The therapy has been scientifically proved.

When we have a fall or an accident, the impact upon the body does not just affect the part hurt i.e.: - shoulder.  It is like throwing a pebble in a pond: The impact radiates throughout the body, it can go up, down or sideways.  When this happens it affects tissue and creates blockages to the flow of energy.   This can show up as a disorder later i.e.: - headaches, neck pain or other disorder.

Cranio Sacral Therapy treats people rather than conditions.  It is primarily concerned with creating a healthy balanced state on all levels – physical, mental and emotional.

One or a combination of techniques may support people with almost any condition. They are aimed at removing or reducing limitation to our innate self-healing process and aid the search for the root causes of a person’s ill health, causes that may have hidden for years.

How does it work?

Craniosacral therapy is safe, simple, yet very powerful and effective.  Small movements are made to the head and body to enable the body to realign by itself without trauma to the bones, tissues and ligaments. In the process it eliminates symptoms, diseases, dysfunctions and their root causes.

Relaxing and calming to the body (some even feel sleepy during treatment)

Provides relief from aches and pains and traumas to the body from car accidents, falls etc.,

Emotional trauma to the body creates blockages. CST is able to help with unblocking and clearing blocked energy.

Babies and children can receive dysfunctions from forceps or suction delivery.  CST helps to realign bones and tissues after a traumatic delivery. Also helpful for Mums during pregnancy and after birth.

May be particularly helpful with:

  • Chronic Pain
  • Osteoarthritis
  • Restricted movement
  • Headaches and Migraine
  • Repetitive Strain injury
  • Boosting recovery from injury
  • Promoting general health and fitness
  • Sciatica/disc problems
  • Reduced vitality
  • Discomfort during pregnancy
  • Recovery from injury and surgery
  • Jaw and mouth disorders- (grinding teeth)
  • Sports injuries
  • Whiplash
  • Evaluation of Newborns and children  – traumatic birth,
  • Dyslexia / Dysfraxia
  • attention Deficit Disorder and other learning difficulties

What is becoming more widely accepted is the value of this therapy to all adults and children alike.

A wide variety of conditions have been found to respond to craniosacral treatment:

  • Back and skeletal problems
  • TMJ (jaw problems) from dentistry, stress, grinding teeth
  • Sports injuries
  • Exhaustion
  • Chronic fatigue
  • Insomnia
  • Learning difficulties as well as Dyslexia/ Dysfraxia
  • Falls or accidents – whiplash
  • Anxiety and depression
  • Post Traumatic Stress

The client lies on a treatment table fully clothed and the Therapist makes gentle contact by placing the hands lightly on the body, as well as the head and spine.

The process is a partnership in which the therapist assists the body to find its own vitality and healing resource.  It is deeply relaxing

There may be a feeling of tingling, shaking or of heat/cold as structures, muscles, and diaphragms and tissues release.  Sometimes there may be an emotional response as memories of past trauma, sadness and happiness, or of times past are released.  This is a valuable signpost that the body is healing.

Afterwards a client may feel tired, elated, energetic, and loose limbed (feels/stands taller) or slightly achy but any side effects are short lived.

As the partnership builds over a course of treatments the response will be more rapid as the body regains its innate healing abilities.  It is possible for some problems to be resolved with one or two sessions while others may take longer if it is a chronic condition

Diet & Nutrition

Diet has a huge impact on how our bodies perform and our well being.

It is influenced by parasites, toxins, allergies, pH imbalances, overweight, mineral and vitamin deficiencies.

We can help with Natural cleansing, Detoxing, pH balancing, weight loss, removing parasites and candida from the body. Hair tissue analyis to show imblanances and toxcity levels together with depletions in vitamins and minerals.   See below for more information...

Enzymes and vitamins are responsible for converting food into energy.
They also stimulate the metabolic process and accelerate biological functions
Poor diet, stress and lifestyle deplete nutrition and energy in the body
Disease affects the amount of nutrition taken into our body
A run down state of the body is the cause of the problem and disease is the effect
We are what we eat!

Deficiencies can occur for many reasons.
Poor diet will deplete us in nutrients and vitamins – eating food that is not right for us can make us physically ill, giving a feeling of low energy and under par.

PH Balancing – your health is in the balance

Society is plagued with a torrent of health concerns. Many nutritionists believe that the explanation is due to ACID & ALKALI. An imbalance in the body’s pH can affect all major body systems, especially the: - digestive, intestinal, circulatory, respiratory and immune systems.

We need a proper pH-balanced environment to maintain proper metabolic function that allows the body to function optimally. Even though the body has built in protective systems it can become unbalanced through poor diet, stress, dehydration, chemicals and lack of exercise.

If your garden pond was murky and full of sludge and slime due to the pH being out of balance, you would be advised to put nutrients in to make the pH right and have clear water once again. This is what is needed for the body.

Rebalancing pH needs to be done with diet and minerals.  Check your levels of acid/alkaline by simply testing urine or saliva with special pH strips.

Further information on cassette tape, and pH testing strips available from Omega Therapies

Hair tissue mineral Analysis – testing and reports available from Omega Centre. For more information see 'Hair analysis' section.

Losing Weight, Detox and 'After Atkins'

Losing weight

It isn’t just about looking good .. It is about feeling good too.

Obesity is a worldwide problem, affecting people of all ages -adults as well as children. Some recent reports suggest that it will become a bigger health risk than cigarette smoking.  One in five are clinically obese and in the UK almost two thirds of men and over half of all women are overweight.  Obesity could reduce your life span by up to 10 years

Losing weight can improve your digestion of fats and lower your risk of painful gallstones, burning fat rather than storing it.

This lowers the risk of Diabetes, decreases the burden on the heart, lowers cholesterol, reduces arterial plaque and decreases the risk of a heart attack.   This Improves circulation and minimizes the risk of stroke, haemorrhaging and fatigue.

Gaining weight can be due to an underlying clinical disorder such as “digestive disorder” or “water retention”.   It can also be due to depleted or under active Thyroid caused by stress.

Some people can have success in managing their weight while others find it difficult.  With clinical deduction and diet advice together with a range of products, certain vitamins and minerals can help to curb the sweet tooth, maintain ideal healthy weight and establish a better lean muscle/ fat balance.

A range of products and vitamins & minerals to aid weight loss, together with advice and support, is available from Omega Centre.

Natural Cleanse – Chinese herbs can help by cleansing the system with special natural ingredients designed to eliminate parasites from the body

They contain herbs and nutrients that destroy and expel parasites, shrink inflamed tissues, absorb toxins from the bowel and improve the digestion of nutrients

**Information on Detox also available

  We are what we eat!

Deficiencies can occur for many reasons. A run down state of the body is the cause of the problem and disease is the effect

Poor diet will deplete us in nutrients and vitamins – eating food that is not right for us can make us feel physically ill, giving a feeling of low energy and under par.  Major causes of death in this country are often as a result of poor dietary habits and lifestyle.  Many illnesses can be prevented with an adequate intake of dietary nutrition, vitamin and mineral supplements, water and regular exercise.

Foods lack nutrition The earth in which we grow food has been depleted of minerals for over 50 years. Because of the way we produce food with modern day farming methods, storage and transport there is an adverse effect of the nutritional content of our food

Harvesting too soon can prevent enzymes forming correctly and produce stored too long will deplete in nutrients and vitamins. Some food in the supermarket may have been in cold storage, for up to 6-9 months.

Pesticides- A cocktail effect of various pesticides being consumed causes great concerns to many scientists who believe the accumulation of toxic chemicals can be detrimental to health.

Nutritional value varies - Random sampling tests have shown inconsistency in nutrition levels.

Tests on carrots showed a variation from 1850mg of Vitamin A, down to only 75mg.

Oranges varied from 70mg of Vitamin C.down to only a trace.

Allergies can be caused by sensitivity to foods, pollen, dust, animal hair, common drugs, additives and chemicals. Many vitamins and herbs can help to alleviate allergic conditions.

Poor Digestion “You are what you eat, digest and assimilate”

If you are not digesting and assimilating your foods effectively you can be nutritionally deficient. i.e: - Vit. E deficient causes poor digestion of fat, poor ability to assimilate nutrition together with pancreatic, gallbladder and liver disorders. Most people are aware there has been an overuse of drugs over the years with lack of understanding of side effects.

Antibiotics kill “friendly flora” in the intestinal system, which can cause Candida, Thrush and feed yeast conditions. Friendly bacteria plays a vital role in your immune system and needs to be replenished when depleted.

Poor diet, stress and lifestyle depletes nutrition and energy in the body.  Disease affects the amount of nutrition taken into our body.

We need 22 foundation trace minerals in our body for it to function properly and we can get most of them from food and water. If we are short on just one of the foundation minerals it will impair the function of the body reducing the ability to metabolise vitamins and minerals. (Liquid forms of foundation minerals are available in the form of Colloidal Minerals).

e.g.: - Magnesium activates more than 300 enzymes in the body and together with calcium affects nerve and muscle functions.  In modern food processing more than 80% of the natural magnesium in grains is lost by removal of the germ and outer layer.

Vitamin C is one of the synergistic vitamins that open the body’s gates to other vitamins and helps the body absorb minerals.

We need to top up vitamin C.daily as it is water-soluble and not retained by the body.

Vitamin C. is needed every day and is obtained through our diet.

Vitamin C is a powerful antioxidant needed for tissue growth and repair, adrenal gland function, healthy gums, anti - stress hormones and enhances immunity.

Trace elements (minerals) are more important factors in human nutrition than vitamins.  The body can manufacture many vitamins, but it cannot produce necessary trace minerals or get rid of many possible excesses”            Researcher Dr. Henry Schroeder

What can cause a mineral imbalance?

Diet, Stress, Inherited patterns, medications and pollution can cause a mineral imbalance.

Improper diet through high intake of refined and processed foods, alcohol and fad diets can all lead to a chemical imbalance.  Even the nutrient content of a “Healthy” diet can be inadequate, depending upon the soil in which the food was grown, or the method in which it was prepared.

Stress – Physical or emotional stress can deplete the body of many nutrients, while also reducing the capability to absorb and utilize other nutrients.

Inherited patterns A predisposition towards mineral imbalances, deficiencies and excesses can be inherited from parents.

Medication Medications can deplete the body store of nutrients e.g.: Diuretics, antacids, aspirin and oral contraceptives.

PollutionWe are continually exposed to a variety of toxic metal sources

i.e.: - cigarette smoke (cadmium), hair dyes (lead), antiperspirants (aluminum), lead based cosmetics and dental amalgams etc.,

A Hair sample analysis from a laboratory can show deficiencies in vitamins and minerals.  High / Low Toxicity levels and tissue depletion report also gives full details of diet and nutrition suggestions for correcting the imbalances.

After Atkins

If you stick to a high protein diet you do lose weight without feeling hungry. That is why the Atkins diet has taken off with whole groups of the population from celebrities to housewives everywhere.

Research reveals that protein rich foods (such as red meat, chicken, oily and white fish, eggs and game) are more satiating – they make us feel full more quickly – than fatty foods and refined carbohydrates such as white bread, cakes and biscuits.

Because the body finds it quite hard work to digest protein rich foods eating lots of them slightly increases the metabolic rate so that your burn more calories.

But some high protein foods – such as burgers, bacon, sausages and cheese – are rich in saturated fat too, which raises cholesterol and increases the risk of heart disease.  It is also thought that consuming excess quantities of protein puts strain on the kidneys.

Some nutritionists say that we can reap the slimming benefits of protein without the negative side effects, by including some lean protein at each meal – but not unlimited quantities.

You could base breakfast around some baked beans or eggs

Lunch – fish such as tuna, mackerel or salmon: lean white meat, or pulses.

Dinner - could be grilled lean gammon steak, turkey breast (without skin) or tofu.

Atkins recommends that you reduce carbohydrates to just 20g a day – most people eat 300-400g per day.

The advantages of cutting out carbohydrate packed foods such as crisps, cakes and biscuits are two fold.

They are high in calories – so excluding them reduces your calorie intake.

They have high glycaemic index (GI) which means that they are digested rapidly and send blood sugar levels soaring: this causes big surges of the hormone insulin, which ultimately causes excess carbohydrate to be stored as fat

The disadvantage of cutting out all carbohydrates is that you lose the benefits of nutritionally rich, unrefined carbohydrates, such as wholegrain bread, brown pasta and fruit and vegetables that are packed with vitamins, minerals, fibre and super-nutrients.

These foods are digested more slowly and cause a gentle rise in blood sugar together with a smaller release of the fat -storing hormone insulin.  They also have medium to low GI levels.

Whatever their source, all fats are high in calories.

Nutritionists are of the opinion that fatty foods should be taken sparingly from foods rich in saturated fats - such as butter and cheese, together with moderate use of polyunsaturated fats found in sunflower oil and monounsaturated fats found in olive oil.

Parasites

A colon filled with un-eliminated fecal matter from years of poor eating habits provides the perfect breeding ground for parasites.

Research indicates that there are over 300 different species of parasites and worms that effect more than 2 billion people around the world causing a long list of afflictions

Adults as well as children are affected.  Unfortunately, symptoms caused by parasites can often be misdiagnosed.

Some of the symptoms, which may be a sign of parasitic infections in adults, are as follows: - Anemia,    Joint Aches & pains,   Anorexia,    Lethargy,   Arthritis,     Low Back Pain,    Auto Immune Disease,      Malabsorption,    Bloody stools,         Rectal bleeding,     Distention & bloating,     Rash & itching of the skin,       Irritable Bowel Syndrome,     Weight loss,      Food Allergy,                                Diarrhoea  And many more signs …………..

In children signs may include: - Bedwetting,  Itchy rectum, nose and ears, drooling or grinding of teeth whilst asleep,   dry lips during the day.

See Candida & Thrush page for more information

Natural Cleanse Chinese herbs can help by cleansing the system with special natural ingredients designed to eliminate parasites form the body

They contain herbs that destroy and expel parasites, shrink inflamed tissues, absorb toxins from the bowel and improve the digestion of nutrients.

De-toxing also helps to cleanse the body.

Why detox? Environmental pollutants, poor diet and sedentary lifestyle can result in a build up of toxic pollutants in the body that directly effects our health and over time, if left unchecked, can lead to serious health problems: -

Allergies                     Bad Breath             Constipation            Parasites

Depression                Fatigue                      Insomnia               Headaches

Sinus congestion             Obesity          Skin conditions

Many illnesses are directly related to a build up of toxins in the body

Stress Consultancy

Stress is responsible for many disorders and diseases.

Trials have shown that at least 75% of all disorders start from emotional and stressful conditions or events.

(Scientifically proven - “Molecules of emotion” by Candice Pert)

When we are anxious or under pressure our bodies secrete chemicals into the blood stream that puts us on red alert (fight or flight mode)

It is an automatic reaction when we are feeling out of control, stressed, angry or emotionally upset.

The adrenal kicks in – and creates an explosion of hormones – it is an automatic response from the body to help you to deal with the situation i.e.: - an emergency.

This response also closes down some systems of the body to move energy to other systems to help you cope with the emergency or situation at the time.

  • Shuts down digestive system and bladder
  • Breathing, Heart rate and Blood pressure are increased.
  • More blood is pumped to the muscles

This reaction is ok if it is for an emergency (to stand and fight or run away) but harmful if this reaction is ongoing due to pressure or worry. Once the chemicals have been released they will remain in the body for some time and it can take several hours for the systems to come back on line again.

Nervous Disorders, Insomnia, Anxiety and Depression

Nervous Disorders - Many nervous disorders have mental rather than physical causes and so conventional medicine may not always be very helpful.

Alternative Complimentary therapies can be a good way to help with nervous disorders as they also encourage people to relax.

Depletion in some minerals and vitamins can have an effect on body performance.

Anxiety and stress can be experienced within any part of the mind/body complex, depending upon our own innate physical and emotional constitution.   One common problem is the weakening of the immune defence system, resulting in fatigue and susceptibility to every passing infection and allergy.  Stress and anxiety can also trigger skin problems, or exacerbate an existing condition such as acne and eczema.  We know that it will raise blood pressure and is a contributing factor in the development of heart disease.

It can also play havoc with the endocrine and reproductive systems, manifesting perhaps as severe PMS, low fertility (in men and women) thyroid dysfunction, maturity onset, diabetes and a whole host of other complaints.

The idea that stress is all bad is a misunderstanding. Unlike sheep, humans need a high amount of stimulation to motivate us and keep us going.  It sharpens our senses and helps us adapt to our environment.  Indeed without the ‘spice of life’ we begin to feel downhearted.  Stress only becomes a problem when it develops into distress, especially if the feeling is prolonged.

Whether we are suffering from the strain of living in the fast track, or the burden of a monotonous existence, we feel we have no control over our life, and fear there is no way out, even though the spectrum of human emotion may seem infinitely broad (according to Dr. C. Norman Shealy – US Stress expert).  There are just four major feelings of distress and each stems from an attitude to FEAR – namely: anxiety, anger, guilt and depression.  All other negative feelings are actually synonyms of these four.

The secret of maintaining a sense of well being is to find just the right level of stimulation and relaxation to make life interesting and fulfilling, and of course this balance is different for each individual.

INSOMNIA

Most of us suffer from the occasional bad nights sleep, but for some people insomnia can become a debilitating condition, with one third of the population suffering at some stage of their life.  Insomnia is a condition in which the person cannot get to sleep or has difficulty in staying asleep. Insomnia is often caused by worry or stress.

Symptoms:

Difficulty in getting to sleep or difficulty in staying asleep

Poor quality of sleep – feeling of never slept

Leg twitching

Anxiety and Depression

A surprising large proportion of the adult population will be affected by anxiety or depression at some time in their lives.

These two conditions are often associated with each other.  Everyone is anxious at some time, but excessive feelings of worry and doom can lead to serious physical and psychological problems, and so should be treated.

Symptoms:

There are many physical signs linked to these conditions. Any combination of the following symptoms may be present.

Unable to relax

Headaches

Palpitations – a rapid pulse,

Tightness in the chest

High blood pressure

Sleeplessness

Loss of appetite

Nausea

Diarrhoea

Light Headedness

One of the warning signs of depression is a sudden loss of appetite.  Be sure to consult your medical doctor if you think that you may be suffering.

Constipation may also be the result of sluggish digestion or muscle tone and sometimes of stress or nervous tension.  It can also be a symptom of other conditions.

Stress manifests itself in a variety of ways:

Stress build up acts like an internal explosion causing some of our body’s systems to fail. We often repress feelings and bottle them up.  When we do we can create emotional blockages that over time will create trauma and disease.

Stress can lead to a weakening of our body’s defence system (immune system) and we become more vulnerable to illness and disease.

Each individual reacts to stress in a unique way.
Mental Body reactions: -

  • Inability to make decisions
  • Poor memory/ concentration
  • Panic
  • Nervousness
  •  As well as many other symptoms

Physical Body reactions: -

  • Palpitations
  • Headaches or Migraines
  • Shakiness
  • Exhaustion
  • Stomach problems
  • IBS
  • Lethargic
  • Allergies
  • Colds, Flu etc.,
  • Tension
  • Immune and endocrine systems

Manual Lymph Drainage

All massage is wonderfully relaxing, but a little – known kind called manual lymph drainage (MDL) is also good for easing swelling caused by cancer treatment, fluid retention during pregnancy or general puffiness.

MLD works by stimulating the effect of nature’s own internal cleanser, the lymphatic system – a network of channels carrying lymph fluid. This fluid clears the tissues of bacteria and waste. The collected waste is passed into the lymph nodes in the neck, groin and under the arms. MLD is a gentle almost feathery massage which prevents these nodes getting congested.

Helpful with the stimulation of the Lymphatic system, reduces High blood pressure and Oedema e.g.: pregnancy. Improvements to sinusitis and Hay fever

Lymph system consists of: - Lymph nodes linked by lymph vessels that carry the lymph fluid around the body. This system collects fluid and waste from the tissues and returns it to the blood after it has been purified in the thousands of numerous lymph nodes we have all over the body. Where circulation is failing we get Oedema (swelling) that can be due to various reasons i.e.: -Sports injuries and falls.

It is recognised as the specific treatment for Lymphodema and after mastectomy. Lymphoedema is a chronic swelling caused primarily by a failure of lymph drainage. Lymphoedema is most commonly seen in developed countries following treatment for cancer. Where nodes are removed from the body, especially breast cancer.

Benefits of treatment: -

MLD is a specific massage technique designed to increase the normal lymphokinetic activity and encourage fluid to drain from an oedematous region to a non –oedematous area of the body. It aims to improve the function of the lymphatics. MLD allows the channels to drain in new directions thus aiding drainage from congested or obstructed areas.

MLD affects the automatic nervous system –helping to improve damaged nerve areas.  Also helpful with decreasing the pain of MS and sub-acute arthritis sufferers

  • Stimulation of the Lymphatic system
  • Reduction of High blood pressure
  • Reduces Oedema e.g.: pregnancy
  • Improvement of sinusitis and Hay fever

Like a face-lift without surgery, It also helps with the reduction of Acne, together with post. Surgical / Scar tissue – improves lymph flow

Treatment: - Because lymph fluid only flows in one direction, proximal areas are treated before distal areas.  The technique is a gentle pumping action.  Pressure is very light because lymph flow is just under the skin. MLD should not cause pain.

What is the Lymphatic system?

The lymph system is a drainage system that works in parallel with the venous system.  The excess tissue fluid that the veins cannot carry gets transported in the lymphatic vessels.

Unlike the vascular system (a continuous circular track) there is no pump pushing the lymph fluid around the circuit.  Lymph only moves in one direction. Muscular contraction forces fluid along Lymph vessels together with compression from pulsing arteries, movement of organs and lymphatic drainage.

Lymph system consists of: - Lymph nodes linked by lymph vessels that carry the lymph fluid around the body.  This system collects fluid and waste from the tissues and returns it to the blood after it has been purified in the thousands of numerous lymph nodes we have all over the body, that help to protect and maintain the internal fluid environment.

This is done by filtering – removing foreign particles and fragments of broken down cells, bacteria and virus particles – and by producing and circulating Lymphocytes (cells of the immune system) that defend the body against disease and invasion by foreign substances.

The lymph system network also transports fats, proteins and other substances to the blood system and restores about 60% of the fluid that filters out of the blood capillaries during normal metabolism

Lymph nodes have two essential functions

  • Filter the lymph and remove foreign particles and fragments of broken down cells, bacteria and virus particles.
  • To produce and circulate lymphocytes

Like a blocked sink the nodes can become blocked (i.e.: - arm pit -axilla) and when only a little of the fluid can get through this area it causes back flow and discomfort (i.e.: -shoulder).

Nodes can become blocked for various reasons (virus /glandular fever) and it is only after some time we start to feel the impact of the impaired condition and slowing down of lymph flow as it effects other parts of the body. Fatigue and lethargy are some of the symptoms because the toxins and poisons in the body are not being filtered out.

Where circulation is failing we get Oedema (swelling), which can be due to various reasons: -

  • Composition of the blood is abnormal  - too much salt/water (nephritis)
  • Depletion of protein - nephritic syndrome
  • General circulatory problem – right sided or congestive cardiac failure or pelvic blockage
  • Associated with late pregnancy and high blood pressure
  • Myxoedema is a condition that results from hypothyroidism

Manual Lymph Drainage  (MLD) is an advanced therapy technique developed in Europe in the 1930’s by Danish Dr Emil and Estrid Vodder. It was first used as a beauty treatment, but soon developed into a clinical technique as the benefits were recognised.

A unique method, with in the broad framework of classic massage, where a very light pumping action moves the skin to bring about an increased lymph flow.

Primarily, MLD is used to promote the optimal function of the initial lymph vessels, nodes and ducts of the lymphatic system.

It facilitates removal of metabolic waste, excess water, large protein molecules and foreign substances from tissue via the initial lymph vessels and venous capillaries.

However, new research done in Australia by Alan Hudson has broadened the technique further using an even lighter touch that is being recognised in UK and results have been very successful.

It was found that if too much pressure was being used it could flood the tissue instead of releasing lymph fluid. Joy has trained in the Alan Hudson method and uses it with much success.

It is the treatment of choice where there is stasis of lymph associated with high protein oedemas.   In the case of chronic lymphoedemas, it is an essential part of a decongestive physical therapy routine involving compression exercise and skin care.

The positive effects are well known in Europe, Australia and USA.  In Europe particularly the technique is practiced widely in hospitals and clinics and is recognised by relevant national health insurance plans.

LYMPHOEDEMA

Lymphoedema is a chronic swelling caused primarily by a failure of lymph drainage.  This can be congenitally determined with no obvious cause – (PRIMARY LYMPHOEDEMA) or may develop after surgery or radiotherapy treatment (SECONDARY LYMYPHOEDEMA).

Limbs are the most commonly affected part of the body, although the adjacent part of the trunk may be involved. It could occur immediately after treatment or many years later.

Lymphoedema is most commonly seen in developed countries following treatment for cancer, where nodes are removed - especially breast cancer. Literature has suggested that the prevalence rate for women treated for breast cancer is in the region of 25-28%

Strain is put on the Lymph vessels when nodes and glands are removed.

Swelling may affect all or part of a limb and may also extend to the trunk

It can be soft and pitting or hard and non-pitting due too interstitial fibrosis.

Unlike other odemas, it does not significantly reduce overnight.   Patients may experience a number of other effects, particularly skin changes i.e.: -

  • Enhanced skin creases
  • Hyperkeratosis – thickening of the outer layer of the skin
  • Papillomastosis – non-malignant tumour resembling a wart
  • Lymphangioma – collection of abnormal lymph vessels

Other effects include acute inflammatory episodes (commonly referred to as cellulites) and with Lymphoedema on the leg can contract fungal infection –

usually between the toes.

Treatment of Lymphoedema

In this country the management of lymphodema is based upon work

done in mainland Europe - Foldi clinic Hineterzarten Germany.

This approach is based around twin concepts of “Maintenance

therapy “ and “Intensive therapy”. This includes:

  • Skin care
  • External support – elastic hosiery
  • Exercise programme
  • Self massage

Lymphoedema Support Network -  www.lymphoedema.org/lsn

Treatment principles of MLD

First treatment includes a consultation

  • Because lymph only flows in one direction proximal areas are treated before distal areas.
  • Pressure is light because lymph flow is just under the skin.Technique is rhythmical – same pressure, same speed and same number of times.  It is not done at a fast pace.
  • Pumping action technique has a pressure phase and relaxation phase.
  • MLD should not cause pain

Benefits of treatment: -

  • A deep relaxation treatment together with stimulation of the Lymphatic system.

Reduces Oedema e.g.:

Sports injuries and pregnancy, also minimises scarring and stretch marks

  • Increase in bowel and/or bladder movements
  • Post surgical/ Scar tissue – improves lymph flow

MLD affects the automatic nervous system – giving improvements to damaged nerve areas. MLD has a calming effect as the automatic nervous system changes from a sympathetic to a parasympathetic state through the triggering of attraction reflexes.

  • Improvement of Hay fever and sinusitis
  • Reduction of High blood pressure
  • Decrease in pain of MS and sub-acute arthritis sufferers

Recognised as the specific treatment following Lymphodema and mastectomy

MLD also:

  • Speeds up healing
  • Relieves headache and pain
  • It is a fantastic treatment for Hay fever and helps un-block sinus, together with improvements for sinusitis.

A spectacular skin treatment - It helps tighten up the saggy parts and reduce  puffiness.  It is like having a face-lift without surgery.

  • Reduction of acne due to detox, although initially it may become worse, as toxins are released.
  • Reduction of High blood pressure.
  • Stimulation of the immune system

Clears colds - Improvement of breathing in colds, flu, bronchitis and asthma (not acute state)

It is suitable for almost everyone regardless of age. Except for TB,

Heart conditions, Cancer - while having treatment i.e.: - radio therapy etc.,

Before Treatment of Manual Lymph Drainage-

  • Inform your therapist if you are on any medication
  • Avoid alcohol
  • Avoid eating a heavy meal before a MLD treatment

First treatment includes a consultation and will take approx

1- 3/4 hours including medical history.

Normal sessions thereafter take approx one hour

Treatment is given on a treatment bed with the client wearing underclothes and covered with towels. As we work down the body a part of the towel is opened up and the area exposed is worked on.

At the first session a full treatment is advised to evaluate the body

Thereafter half body treatments may be suggested

Your MLD Therapist will decide which advanced technique will best suit your needs for a quick recovery and put a package together with the option of recommendations for nutrition, diet, hair analysis and emotional / stress relief

After Treatment: -

  • Your treatment will have started the process of elimination of poisons and toxins.
  • Drink plenty of still water over the next 24 hours.
  • Filtered or bottled non fizzy water 6-8 glasses minimum
  • If water is not taken the toxins released may cause a headache
  • Some clients feel sleepy after treatment.  Allow some extra time for yourself especially during the first few sessions. Rest and look after yourself for a short time afterwards.

How Many Treatments

Most forms of disease will have been building up over a period of time.  It is therefore unrealistic to expect an instantaneous improvement

Every client is different, so it is not possible to predict the exact number of sessions required.

Serious diseases usually take longer to treat than minor ones.

Chronic disorders that have been present for a long time again usually take longer than those that have been present a short time.

Older people sometimes take longer than younger people

For all disorders a course of treatment (6-8 treatments) is recommended even if the symptoms appear to go after the first treatment.

A course of treatment will help to balance the body’s systems that, in turn, will help to prevent a recurrence of the disorder.

Usually some improvement should occur after about three to four sessions, depending upon condition of the lymph

There are few people who do not benefit in some way from MLD. Even if the disorder is not completely cured, the clients often feel more relaxed or better in themselves.

REACTION FOLLOWING TREATMENT

Once the treatment has finished the client should feel relaxed and perhaps warmer, because of the blood circulation stimulation

Sometimes however, the client may feel cold – this is because of the toxins leaving the body.

People are often surprised, during and after the treatment, that stimulating the lymph can have such a dramatic effect across the body.

They often feel sleepy, calmer and relaxed.  Leaving them with a heightened feeling of well being

Common reactions after treatment: -

  • Perhaps the most common is that the client has a good nights sleep
  • The rate of urination may increase.  The colour and smell may also change.
  • Some find that they have a good bowel movement.
  • Suppressed past conditions could flare up

** Tiredness and lethargy can affect some, as the toxins/poisons have been disturbed  - this should clear within 24 –48 hours

**Some people experience a headache after treatment – this is because the treatment has started the movement of toxins in the body

**In this case you need to drink plenty of water to help clear the toxins from the body - 6-8 glasses in the next 24 hours

These are all positive reactions and show that the body is trying to heal itself.

Regular treatments have proven to produce a Homeostasis in the body. Most clients like to continue with a monthly or six weekly sessions just to keep the lymph flowing and nodes clear. Their level of relaxation improves together with strengthened immune systems and systems rebalanced.

Magnified Healing

Healing methods are changing and expanding.

Magnified Healing is a revived, ancient healing that was used by Yogis and spiritual masters.  It is a very special advanced healing brought to us by Lady Master Kwan Yin, for these special times of the millennium.

Most people have heard of Reiki Healing. Magnified Healing is different from Reiki. Reiki is a channelled (4th dimensional healing energy).

Magnified Healing is a 5th dimensional healing energy, an energy that is felt by the Healer and client (we become the healing).

Its focus is on the heart. Working with feminine energy, Magnified Healing heals at all levels, physically, mentally and spiritually. It is a very powerful healing practice that can help to heal all aspects of the body - Physical,  Emotional,   Mental, Etheric,    Spiritual,     Karma,    Balances Chakra energy centres.

Yogis and spiritual masters used this technique to assist them when they spent their lives in retreat, attaining this level of knowledge. We have been given this special ancient healing modality under special divine dispensation to help humanity.

Magnified Healing is different from Reiki.

Reiki is a channelled vibrational energy healing and is directed into the body of the practitioner.  Magnified Healing is a 5th dimensional healing energy – an energy that is felt by the Healer and client. Its focus is on the heart.

Working with feminine energy Magnified Healing heals at all levels, physically, mentally and spiritually.

When a treatment is given it is short compared to other modalities, approx 20-30 minutes.

Balances Chakras: With Magnified Healing we work with the Chakras clearing, cleansing, balancing, and aligning. When Chakras are out of balance it can affect organs in the physical body. By balancing and aligning Chakras this allows the energies (Chi) to flow and helps the body to heal itself quicker. Health and vitality is maintained when energies flow.

With Magnified Healing we work with the Chakras clearing, cleansing, balancing, and aligning. By aligning and balancing Chakras we can eliminate distortions within them and improve our health. Energies are also improved.

Healing of Karma, the release of Karma is very important as we all carry emotional baggage around with us every day.   We can even bring Karma from previous lives to deal with during this lifetime. Magnified Healing allows the release of Karma. Magnified Healing is effective in releasing this emotional and/or traumatic baggage together with its negative distortions. They are transmuted and this clears the pathways for you to move on in your life.

Magnified Healing is different from Reiki.

What happens when you receive a treatment?

When you receive a Magnified Healing treatment it is a powerful yet gentle Healing modality. It releases emotional baggage (Karma) and leaves you feeling calm, peaceful, as if a weight has been lifted off your shoulders.

When Chakras are out of balance this can affect organs in the physical body. By balancing and aligning Chakras this allows the energies (Chi) to flow and helps the body to heal itself quicker. Health and vitality is maintained when energies flow.

What can Magnified Healing be used for?

Magnified Healing can be used for all sorts of Physical disorders as well as emotional and mental problems. It also helps with:    Palliative care,              Stress and Anxiety, Bereavement, Pain and Headaches, Balancing of the Higher Bodies (Auras), Chakras balanced and aligned, DNA Activation, Releases and clears Karma (Emotional baggage we carry around with us and pick up daily)

A brief chat will take place after the treatment to discuss if further treatments would be necessary.

Sometimes it is better to have a course of treatments depending upon the disorder and why the appointment has been made.

Emotional Release

Healing your life and setting yourself FREE

We are living in an age where pressure, stress and anxiety are part of daily life.  This affects all ages, children and adults. Pressure from our peers, family and work commitments all affect our emotions that in turn affect our body physically and mentally.

Emotions affect how our body performs. Stress and emotions are responsible for many disorders and diseases.

Trials have shown that at least 75% of all disorders start from emotional and stressful conditions or events.

A powerful therapy creating profound and amazing results

Disorders helped:

  • Addiction
  • Anger / Rage
  • Self esteem
  • Grief
  • Hurt and Abuse
  • Fear and abandonment
  • Miscarriage/ post natal depression
  • Abortion
  • Parental relations
  • Longstanding problems
  • Relationships
  • Stuck in your life or Something holding you back
  • OCD  & Comfort eating
  • Depression/Anxiety
  • Energy blockages - loss or lack of energy
  • Pain
  • Childhood abuse/fear problems
  • Post traumatic stress
  • Emotional trauma

We secrete chemicals in the body. Chemicals coat the cells and that determines how our body is going to react. Our cells also hang onto the memory that created this action. i.e.: abandonment, grief, fear, trauma, devastation, despair, hurt, depression, anxiety, feeling unloved or unhappy etc., that creates a reaction that can come out as disorders /addictions: - eating, smoking, drinking, drugs, compulsive disorders etc.

For more information pelase scroll down....

It has been scientifically proved by Candice Pertby in her book “Molecules of emotion”

Candice was part of the aids programme and found through her research that cells were coated with peptides/chemicals that created a reaction/pattern of emotion that created disorders within the body.

Sometimes when we are anxious, stressed, angry, emotionally upset or under any pressure that puts the body on red alert (fight or flight mode) the Adrenal kicks in - an explosion of hormones.

It is an automatic response from the body to help you to deal with the situation i.e.: -emergency.

This response closes down some of the systems of the body to move energy to other systems

  • Shuts down digestive system and bladder
  • Breathing, Heart rate and Blood pressure are increased.
  • More blood pumped to the muscles

This reaction is ok if it is for an emergency (to stand and fight or run away) but harmful if this reaction is ongoing due to pressure or worry. It is like using a battery over and over again without recharging it.  If we don’t use this energy, the chemicals that have been released will remain in the body for some time and it can take several hours for the systems to come back on line again.

Life Events create emotional trauma when we feel deep hurt or despair and over time this is when disease in the body can be created.

We often repress and bottle up feelings.  It is when we bottle up and repress feelings that deep trauma in our body is created.

Trials have shown that this is when disease such as cancer can occur. Your Emotions are powerful. (See 'Events' for workshop on 'Power of emotions')

Emotional Release - Emotional & cellular healing guides you to the root cause of the problem that is causing the disorder or trauma and gives you the tools to help yourself.

Emotional Release is at the cutting edge of energy medicine and healing that can enable you to recover and move beyond illness, disease and performance limitations or restrictions.  It is healing on all levels.

Somoto Emotional Release (SER) - Scientifically and Clinically trialled by Dr. John Upledger who devised this therapy (-an offshoot of Cranio Sacral Therapy) on Vietnam war veterans who they found needed more than counselling because of their post traumatic stress and trauma

The treatment proved to be very successful especially with emotional trauma, post - traumatic stress etc.

Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD)

The symptoms of PTSD arise after an exceptionally threatening event that is outside the normal range of experience.

These symptoms are manifestations of stress-induced changes in brain structure and function that result in altered neuro -chemical systems within specific brain regions, leading to chronic modification in brain circuits involved in stress response.

Sudden unexpected traumatic stresses or conversely prolonged exposure to inhumane treatment or significant abuse have a higher predictive value for the development of PTSD.

The psychological/physical/constitutional strengths and weaknesses of the individual are also relevant, as is the presence of concomitant bodily abuse or injury.

There are stages of reaction when PTSD is experienced: -

The stressor: the person may have experienced, witnessed or been confronted with an event or events that involved actual or threatened death or serious injury to self or others – i.e.: car accident

The reaction: the person’s response may have involved fear, helplessness or horror (or disorganised, agitated behaviour in children).

Re-experiencing the trauma: the traumatic event is persistently re-experienced through recurrent or intrusive recollections or distressing dreams (e.g.: nightmares) or a sense of reliving the experience (e.g.: flashbacks) or distress or physiological reactivity on exposure to associated cues.

Avoidance:  there is persistent avoidance of stimuli associated with the trauma but numbing of general responsiveness to other stimuli.

Hyper-arousal: there is a persistent symptom of increased arousal e.g.: heightened anxiety, startle responses, hyper-vigilance, sleep disturbance, difficulties with memory or concentration.

Distress: there is clinically significant impairment in important areas of functioning: e.g.: social or occupational.

Duration: these disturbances may have been present for more than one month.  The condition is sub- divided into “acute” - less than 3 months duration, “chronic” - more than 3 months, or “delayed” -onset of symptoms is more than 6 months after traumatic stress.

Complex PTSD: includes impact of experiences on a person’s view of themselves and the world following severe trauma.

It affects those who have had a history of subjection to totalitarian control over a prolonged period.

As well as hostages, survivors of cults and so on there is the inclusion of sexual and domestic life, including domestic battering, childhood physical or sexual abuse, and organised sexual exploitation.

Symptoms are classified according to alterations in:

Mood  - including suicidal preoccupation

Consciousness – depersonalisation or de-realisation

Self- perception – shame, guild, sense of stigma or helplessness

Perception of perpetrator – preoccupation with revenge

Relationships with others – disruption in intimate relationships or withdrawal

Systems of meaning – sense of despair or loss of faith.

Under normal stress reactions of fight or flight, the Adrenal response produces multiple and immediate effects on central nervous system Hormones are released to allow the body to function on red alert and fight or run away producing an automatic response that we don’t even have to think about.

In chronic PTSD there is a super suppression (blunting) of the neuro endocrine response to acute stress but increased sympathetic nervous system ‘tone’.  Re-exposure to trauma or related cues heightens this ‘alarm state’.  The features are not only accompanied by anxiety but also by anger and depression.  It is as though the automatic nervous system (ANS) is a pendulum and is swinging widely from its normal state to that of super suppression or (blunting) as a compensatory mechanism by the body to avoid ‘burnout’.

The association between PTSD and physical disorders such as: chronic pain, hypertension, peptic ulcer disease and bronchial asthma, is easily understandable.

When we have traumatic events in our lives, even in the womb, the memory stays in the body’s cells and creates reactions, conditioning, and creates patterns within us.

We can even have these traumas with us from previous Karma and take

on parent’s issues of guilt, shame etc.,

The treatment of PTSD requires specialist expertise.

PTSD was trialled by Dr. John Upledger with Vietnam veterans, who had received counselling but found that it was not enough, as the trauma was not completely removed.

Somoto Emotional Release (SER) was found to be very successful and was further developed with their help.

Somoto Emotional Release (SER) helps to remove these memories, emotional reactions, patterns and disorders in a gentle and quick manner.

Treatment takes approx 1 ½ to 2 hours

Helping in a new way clearing mentally, physically, emotionally and spiritually at the same time.

It doesn’t matter how long ago it happened. It could be 30 years ago and it will still help to clear the memories from the cells.

Some people say: “I have dealt with it”. This can seem true to a degree with the mind, but not with the physical.  When we consequently do their SER treatment they often agree that they had not ‘dealt with it’ after all.  The depths we bury and can hold this information amazes me.  We need to clear the body of the memories as well as the mind to help us move on in a clear manner.

When I have done this treatment with others, their physical disorders have improved and for some, symptoms have gone completely.  After just one session they have looked and sounded different, and appeared brighter.

Many say to me: - ‘I feel as though a weight has been taken off my shoulders’

‘ I feel lighter’   ‘ I feel so different’

It is a hands-on technique working physically and mentally, that can release the blockages and the memory patterns that you discover are the underlying cause of illness and performance limitations.  This in turn can increase/enhance the flow of energy in the body.

Hair Analysis Testing

Hair tissue mineral Analysis – reports available

Hair tissue and mineral analysis (HTMA) is an analytical test that measures the mineral content of the hair (your DNA) and gives a full report on vitamin, mineral deficiencies with levels of toxins and poisons in the body together with dietary suggestions. Poor diet will deplete us in nutrients and vitamins – eating food that is not right for us can make us feel physically ill, giving a feeling of low energy and under par.

Many symptoms are associated with mineral and vitamin deficiencies and/ or excesses such as:

  • Allergies
  • Headaches
  • Depression
  • High Blood Pressure
  • Fatigue/Weakness

 Hair tissue mineral Analysis

Hair tissue mineral analysis (HTMA) is an analytical test that measures the mineral content of the hair (your DNA).  Testing is performed using highly sophisticated detection equipment and methods to achieve the most accurate results that can detect and show depletions in nutrients, together with levels of toxins and poisons.

HTMA report will provide you with the most complete and comprehensive computer evaluation with levels and ratios as tested in the hair, including a list of foods to eat or to avoid in accordance with food allergy indicators and individualized requirements, together with a specific list of nutrients that may assist in balancing body chemistry and eliminating toxins.

Poor diet will deplete us in nutrients and vitamins. Eating food that is not right for us can make us feel physically ill, giving a feeling of low energy and under par.  Some major causes of death in this country are as a result of poor dietary habits and lifestyle.  Many illnesses can be prevented with an adequate intake of dietary nutrition, vitamin and mineral supplements, water and regular exercise.

Trace minerals are essential in countless metabolic functions in all phases of the life process. e.g.: -

Zinc is involved in the production, storage and secretion of insulin and is necessary for growth hormones.

Potassium is critical for normal nutrient transport into the cell. A deficiency can result in muscular weakness, depression and lethargy.

Calcium loss from the body can become so advanced that severe osteoporosis can develop with out any appreciable changes noted in the calcium levels in the blood .

Did you know?

Excessive mineral intake can negate the beneficial effects of vitamins for example:

Taking too much Zinc can reduce the beneficial effect of vitamin D

Taking too much Calcium can reduce the beneficial effect of vitamin A

Taking too much Vitamin C can reduce the beneficial effect of copper

Taking too much Vitamin D can cause a deficiency of magnesium

Taking too much iron can contribute to such symptoms as arthritis, high blood pressure and tension headaches with dizziness

Disorders that can benefit from correction of Diet & Nutrition

Many common symptoms are associated with mineral and vitamin deficiencies and/ or excesses such as:  Arthritis,         Allergies,         Depression,      Headaches,

High Blood Pressure,   Hyperglycaemia,        Hypoglycaemia,     IBS,

Constipation,       Stress & Anxiety,       PMT,       Menopause,

Gall Bladder  & Thyroid problems,      Diabetes,      Candida

By improving your diet you can improve your health and create well-being for life….

Research indicates that there are over 300 different species of parasites.

A colon filled with un-eliminated fecal matter from years of poor eating habits provides the perfect breeding ground. Hookworms, whipworms, filarial worms and flat worms affect more than 2 billion people around the world causing a long list of afflictions. Adults as well as children are affected. Unfortunately, symptoms caused by parasites can often be misdiagnosed.

Chakras are energy channels that flow through the body and meet at specific centres known as “the Chakras” that is fundamental to Eastern medicine and philosophy

In a healthy body where the Chakras are in balance, the energy will flow freely right around the system, through the chakra’s and along meridians, or energy channels.

However physical problems, emotional traumas and stresses of everyday life can all undermine the body’s delicate balance and the chakra’s may become blocked, depleted or overloaded When this happens physical or psychological ill health will follow.

Chakra balancing helps to realign energies, it will also help to: Rebalance your central energy centres and Aura

Giving you more energy Calming and relaxing also helps to release emotional baggage Clearing blockages and helping to prevent physical dis-ease.

When energy (Chi) flows through the body unhindered, health and vitality are maintained. A Non-invasive holistic treatment.

Treatments are to appointment only.   Workshop available see events

Chakras are energy channels that flow through the body and meet at specific centres known as “the Chakras” that is fundamental to Eastern medicine and philosophy.

They are located in a vertical column running through the body from the base of the spine up to the top of the head.

“Wheels of Power” - they resemble circular disks that spin or pulsate as energy flows through them.  The name Chakra is Sanskrit and means “wheel”

There are seven major chakra’s, each one corresponding to specific physical, mental and spiritual functions and regulating the energy required to keep the mind, body, and spirit holistically tuned.

Clearing blockages and helping to prevent physical dis-ease

When we are ill the condition of our Chakras enables us to trace the root of our malaise.  Because each Chakra is associated with a particular part of the anatomy, such as a gland or an organ in the body, and imbalances in the energy flow through the Chakras will create a domino effect and manifest themselves as problems in their related areas.

Aches and pains in a particular part of the body suggest that its corresponding Chakra is in a state of imbalance.  Conversely if we can pinpoint which Chakra is malfunctioning we can deduce from that all the anatomical areas that are likely to be affected, either at present or in the future, unless matters are corrected.

In addition, all our emotions creative impulses, spiritual feelings and intuitive understanding correspond to the seven energy centres and will, therefore, be similarly affected by the condition of the Chakras

By balancing and correcting the Chakra’s this helps with rebalancing the body energies and helps the body to become healthier.                Creating hormonal stimulus, physiological and psychological response. Thus increasing energy in mind body and spirit now and elevating future problems.

The medical profession is now realising the benefits of Chakra balancing in Oncology.

The Aura

All things living emit a certain amount of electricity that surrounds the body in an electromagnetic field known as the aura.

The field forms itself into a ring of radiant light around the outside of the physical body and though invisible to most eyes, it is made up of many colours.

Chakras are connected to the Aura and the Aura influences the Chakras.

Each colour symbolizes a specific organ a psychological characteristic or a physical condition and so describes the moods, feelings, disposition or state of health of the individual.

A Non-invasive holistic treatment no need to take anything off except shoes.

Treatments are by appointment - available to rebalance and treat Chakra’s & Aura’s

One-day workshop about Chakras & Aura’s is available: Learn about Energies, Vibrations and how they affect the body.

Arrangements can also be made to teach in your area

Reflexology - Used to restore the body’s natural equilibrium

Reflexology has gained recognition as a Natural Therapy as treatment can be used for the correction and prevention of ill health.

A complimentary health treatment that is non invasive, (The client does not need to undress, only remove socks and shoes) it is a safe, natural therapy and has a way of relaxing, balancing and harmonizing the body. Reflexology is very effective while being pleasurable and relaxing, that is increasing in popularity.

Reflexology functions in two ways: -

  • As a diagnostic tool, and as a method of treatment

Reflexology uses a Holistic approach i.e.: - treats the whole person not just the symptoms.  It stimulates the body’s natural healing powers and many have found it an effective way to recoup lost energy, a major role in attaining and maintaining health.

Reflexology is a specific pressure technique. By using finger and thumb pressure on precise reflex points on both feet, it is able to alleviate tension and promote relaxation.

Feet are a map of the whole body – Big toes are the head and the body is mapped out with major organs etc., on the feet, as they would be on the body.

The foot and hand contains reflex areas that correspond to a part of the body, so every part of the body can be reached.

Reflexology is over 5000 years old

The earliest evidence of Reflexology was found as drawings in the tomb of a physician named Ankm’ahor at Saqqara in Egypt dating from around 2500BC

The drawings show practitioners massaging their patient’s hands and feet

Recent evidence has shown that Native American folk medicine also used a form of foot massage as a healing aid.

Reflexology acts as a complement to all forms of standard medical treatment in a wide range of acute and chronic conditions.

There is as yet no unified theory as to how Reflexology works.  However, its effects are likely to involve some or all of the following processes:

  • Deep muscle relaxation and relief of tension and stress
  • An improvement to cardiovascular and lymphatic circulation
  • Stimulation and inhibition of the transmission of nerve impulses to the brain particularly those involving the autonomic nervous system
  • The reduction of pain through gate control and stimulation of the endorphins
  • Stimulation of the process of proprioception and adaptive changes in other systems
  • Stimulation of key points on the acupuncture meridians
  • Effects on the body’s electromagnetic field
  • The benefits of an hour’s rest, stillness and quiet
  • The psychological benefits of an hour’s personal attention and care

The therapy is particularly useful for:

  • Long-term chronic cases
  • Clients who “don’t like taking pills”
  • Cases involving stress or tension
  • Clients who need more support than can be given within the constraints of normal consultation times.
  • Clients who produce symptoms for which there appears to be no underlying pathology.

Who can Benefit?

Experience has shown Reflexology to be particularly helpful in the following areas:

  • Conditions involving poor cardiovascular or lymphatic circulation
  • Stress related conditions
  • Musculo-skeletal pain (backache, stiff neck, frozen shoulder)
  • Hypertension
  • Asthma and other respiratory problems
  • Headaches and migraine
  • Sinus problems
  • Bowel disorders (constipation and IBS)
  • Menstrual irregularities, PMT, menopausal symptoms
  • Post - operative recovery and Care of the terminally ill
  • Help those who suffer from Insomnia

Further indication of the effects produced by Reflexology includes the following, which although not subject to scientific protocols, have nevertheless been confirmed by medical tests, or monitoring.

  • Normalising high blood pressure

Recent Reports to Validate Reflexology

A Study in Denmark of 116 patients presenting with a range of 15 conditions resulted in 75% of those treated with Reflexology reporting primary benefits and 63% reporting secondary benefits.

A large Post Office in Denmark which has employed a full time Reflexologist since 1990 reports a saving of around £100,000 a year due to a reduction in sickness and absenteeism of 13.3%

A Doctor’s study of 64 pregnant women within a G.P’s practice showed a range of effects, including a significantly reduced labour time for all those receiving reflexology

Further studies in Ireland and UK of Reflexology and pregnancy have shown great results of less disorders and complications while receiving regular treatments throughout pregnancy.

A study (Published in Obstetrics & Gynaecology) of women suffering from severe P.M.T showed a significant reduction in symptoms amongst those treated with reflexology.

A Study of patients in a Trauma Unit at the Prince of Wales Orthopaedic Hospital Cardiff showed that those who received reflexology went home, on average, 3-5 days earlier than others.

A follow-up study of knee replacement patients is now underway.

Before Treatment of Reflexology: -

  • Inform your therapist if you are on any medication
  • Avoid alcohol
  • Avoid eating a heavy meal before a Reflexology treatment
  • First treatment includes a consultation and will take approx 1-½ hours including medical history.

Normal sessions thereafter take approx one hour. Treatment is given on a treatment bed or sat in a chair with feet up on a stool. It is a non-invasive treatment so client will only need take off shoes and socks.

Reflexologist will decide which advanced technique will best suit your needs for a quick recovery and put a package together with the option of recommendations for nutrition, diet, hair analysis and emotional / stress relief.

After Treatment: -

  • Your treatment will have encouraged your body to eliminated toxins and poisons
  • Drink plenty of still water over the next 24 hours
  • Drink filtered or bottled **non fizzy water 6-8 glasses minimum
  • If water is not taken it may cause a headache
  • Some clients feel sleepy after treatment.  Rest and look after yourself for a short time after treatment.

How Many Treatments?

Most forms of disease will have been building up over a period of time.  It is therefore unrealistic to expect an instantaneous improvement.

Every client is different, so it is not possible to predict the exact number of sessions required.

Serious diseases usually take longer to treat than minor ones.

Chronic disorders that have been present for a long time again usually take longer than those have been present as short time.

Older people sometimes take longer than younger people.

For all disorders a course of treatment is recommended even if the symptoms appear to go after the first treatment.

A course of treatment will help to balance the body’s systems that in turn will help to prevent a recurrence of the disorder.

For the majority of disorders a course of six to eight weekly sessions is recommended.  Usually some sort of improvement should occur after about three sessions.

There are few people who do not benefit in some way from Reflexology. Even if the disorder is not completely cured, the people often feel more relaxed or better in themselves.

REACTION FOLLOWING TREATMENT

Once the treatment has finished the client should feel relaxed and perhaps warmer, because of the blood circulation has been stimulated.

Sometimes however, the client may feel cold – this is because of the toxins leaving the body

People are often surprised during and after the treatment that stimulating the reflex points on the feet can have such a dramatic effect across the body.

They often feel sleepy, calmer and relaxed, leaving the person with a heightened feeling of well-being

Common reactions after treatment: -

  • Perhaps the most common is that the client has a very good nights sleep
  • The rate of urination may increase.  The colour and smell may also change
  • Suppressed past conditions could flare up
  • Some people (approx 10%) may experience a headache after treatment – this is because the treatment has started the movement of toxins in the body    **In this case you need to drink plenty of water to help clear the toxins from the body 6-8 glasses in the next 24 hours

These are all positive reactions and show that the body is trying to heal itself.

Regular treatments have proven to produce a Homeostasis in the body. Most clients like to continue with monthly or six weekly sessions just to top up their level of relaxation and rebalance the systems.

Cranio Sacral Therapy helps

Pregnancy, infertility and birth can be very emotional and traumatic for parent and child.  Emotional trauma to the body creates blockages.  Cranio Sacral therapy helps with clearing energy blockages and is therefore able to help rebalance the body.

When energy (Chi) flows through the body unhindered, health and vitality are maintained.

Cranio sacral therapy (CST) is a safe, simple, yet very powerful and effective body/mind therapy.  Small movements are made to the head and body to enable the body to realign by itself without trauma to the bones, tissues and ligaments.

It is safe and helpful for Mums during pregnancy and Post - natal dysfunctions - realigning the pelvis, clearing the effects from epidurals, post natal depression etc.,

It is relaxing and calming to the body (some even feel sleepy during treatment) providing relief from aches and pains, especially back pain, easing muscles, releasing diaphragms.

*Babies and children can receive dysfunctions from forceps or suction delivery. CST helps to realign bones and tissues after a TRAUMATIC delivery.

It is also used for babies and children who have learning difficulties and traumatic births, Colic, distressed/crying children, learning difficulties, Dyslexia, Dysfraxia, and Autism.

For more information see 'CST for babies and children' section.

Pregnancy

Pregnancy places greater nutritional demands on a woman’s body.

A developing baby totally depends on its mother for proper nutrition.  A woman lacking nutrients essential for proper foetal growth risks having a baby that suffers from low birth weight or birth defects.

We now know that nutritional needs during pregnancy are vital during this special time.

Vitamin B and folic acid is essential for proper development of the spinal cord.  Adequate iodine is essential for proper thyroid development that regulates growth and metabolism.

To prevent the developing child from depleting valuable nutrients from its mother’s resources the mother needs to ensure that she has an adequate intake of nutrients for both her and the baby.

Pregnant women need approximately 300 extra calories a day

65% more protein, 100% more folic acid and vitamin D, 50% more calcium and magnesium, 33% more vitamin C, 25% more vitamin A.

It is essential at these times that only supplements that are pure in essential ingredients: - no colourings, flavours artificial flavours etc.,  are used.

INFERTILITY

Complimentary therapy is of interest to many people with infertility problems, especially when conventional medicine has not cured the problem and, in some cases has not found the cause.

Complimentary practitioners claim most success with “unexplained” cases of infertility.  Trials have shown Reflexology has a high success rate.

Stress, tension, and related bodily reactions are believed by many doctors to be factors in some infertility.

It does seem that hormonal changes affecting various aspects of reproductive systems – including ovulation and spasm in the fallopian tubes – may be stress induced.

Most agree that reducing stress improves fertility.  Where therapies directly reduce stress, and treat the body holistically to improve general health, this may help the body to heal itself, and so improve fertility.

  • Clearing energy blockages
  • Rebalancing energies
  • Diet, nutrition and exercise also play a part to improve fertility

 Infertility

The inability to conceive can deeply challenge a couple’s emotional and physical health.  To overcome their problem they will need to take into consideration the many facets of their fertility problem and address their relationship and their needs. For the best possible chance of a successful conception, they can take an holistic approach that removes the boundaries between conventional and complementary care.

This approach utilises complementary therapies to improve the results of high-tech care or uses minimally invasive diagnostic techniques to improve the results.   Complementary and conventional treatments work well together.

It is very important to acknowledge and understand that the emotions and anxieties that arise when fertility is not as straightforward as it should be, can in themselves be detrimental to conception.  Infertility is recognised as being a major life crisis, which can cause enormous emotional pain.  Losing our fertility can be like losing our future.  We can lose confidence in ourselves, our self-esteem can hit rock bottom and we may feel incomplete as sexual beings – failures as men and women.   Life can lose its meaning and when IVF treatment is started a whole new set of stresses are faced.

Couples who are infertile, and who are also coping with trauma, are coping with loss, often more loss that most people have to deal with in a lifetime.

Consultations and treatments include all elements of life: mental, physical and spiritual.  This holistic approach is the first choice when experiencing difficulty in becoming pregnant.Trials have shown that Reflexology has helped couples to conceive.

*SER emotional release helps to remove blockages, stress and anxiety when there is no physical reason why the couple should not conceive. A combination of therapies – Reflexology, Chakra balancing and SER emotional release can be used as an holistic approach to attain conception.

Diet, together with deficiency in minerals and vitamins, should also be checked.

*SER emotional release also helps with the trauma of miscarriage and traumatic pregnancy.

Joy has already helped others with a package of treatments to aid conception.

One of the hardest obstacles a couple can face in life is having difficulty in becoming pregnant.  Studies show that one in every four couples suffer from some degree of infertility and as many as one in six couples go on to seek help from a specialist.

The availability of IVF treatments on the NHS has undoubtedly come as welcome news, but concerns about side effects and invasive procedures are encouraging clients to seek a holistic approach.

Out of medical research that has been carried out on complementary therapies, Reflexology has shown promising results.  This ongoing research is now being focused on the possible link between Reflexology and fertility problems in women.

What is infertility?

Infertility can be described as any one of the following:

Being unable to conceive after one year of unprotected intercourse.

The state of never having conceived

Having difficulty in conceiving again after having previously conceived

Total inability to produce offspring

 Infertility can be caused by:

Poor egg production due to low production of gonadotrophins (follicle stimulating hormone and luteinizing hormone).

Poor sperm production due to low production of the testosterone and gonadatrophin hormones.

Malformed sperm

Sperm life span

Antibodies antagonising sperm from the male or female

A physical obstruction between the sperm and the egg

Other causes:- Infertility can also be due to less obvious non-physical factors.  Alcohol for instance, as well as cigarettes, caffeine and poor diet, can profoundly hinder the healthy development of eggs and sperm.

Furthermore, anxiety and worry can create the very physical problems that prevent conception.  Soon enough clients find themselves in the paradoxical situation where they can’t get pregnant until they realise they need to relax and they can’t relax until they get pregnant.

Whereas physical complications usually require medical intervention, with the support of the a therapist, the client can identify and manage most psychological causes.  As the afore mentioned non-physical causes of infertility often lie in unnecessary stress and worry, Reflexology may aid conception by encouraging realization and therefore helping to reduce the stress.  Reflexology combined with a cleansing, whole food diet, exercise and rest, can help increase fertility by improving and balancing all the body’s functions in order to eliminate pollutants and toxins.

The aim is then to prevent unnecessary stress and tension returning, which as we have established, can be strongly attributed to infertility and associated problems.

Increasingly, infertile women are now trying to become pregnant with the assistance of Reflexology combined with other specialized treatments.

Women’s Health

Women suffer from all sorts of natural disorders throughout their lives.  Most of them will be hormonal fluctuations that place demands on the women’s bodies.

Monthly hormonal fluctuations take place with unique demands on a woman’s body.   It is a delicate interplay of hormones, orchestrated between the ovaries, adrenal glands, uterus, pituitary gland and hypothalamus gland that all influence well - being, mood, energy, blood sugar levels, fertility and immunity.

Causes of imbalance include over consumption of caffeine, sugar, too few healthy essential fatty acids in the diet and unhealthy dietary fat and salt.

In addition, medication including the birth control pill can contribute to nutritional shortfalls, notably Vitamin B6.

Stress can have significant effects on the delicate balance of hormones in our body.   For decades women have looked to botanicals to provide unique natural elements to maintain a harmonious state of body and mind.

Herbal products can be used, with ingredients that our ancestors discovered, such as red raspberry and chamomile.  With modern technology there are now state of the art products such as Phyto-soy, FC with Dong Quai and combination ingredients in Natural Changes that help with a women’s natural body adjustments to ageing.

Cranio Sacral for Babies and Children

There has been a great deal of publicity recently about the value of Cranio Sacral Therapy for babies and children.  Their systems respond very effectively to this form of therapy and it is extremely valuable in the problems to do with colic, suckling, hearing etc., and problems related to birth process.

Babies and children can receive dysfunctions from forceps or suction delivery.  CST helps to realign bones and tissues after a traumatic delivery, and is also helpful with premature births, getting the suckling action going and reducing stress and anxiety from the birth process.

Emotional trauma to the body creates energy blockages. CST is able to help with unblocking and clearing blocked energy.

Mums also benefit from treatment during pregnancy i.e.: - assists opening of pelvic area.   It is relaxing and calming for those who find pregnancy stressful. Treatment after birth helps the pelvis to be re- aligned and muscle, tissue and nervous systems are soothed and assisted for a quicker recovery.

It is helpful with all ages: evaluation of newborns and children after traumatic birth, learning difficulties, Dyslexia, Dysfraxia, and attention deficit problems etc., CST helps to realign bones and tissues after birth.

“ Every child should have a CST treatment. If every child was treated with CST a lot of dysfunctions that happen at birth could be rectified” Dr. J. Upledger – pioneer of the CST and emotional release therapy

Misalignments during pregnancy, labour and emotional trauma can leave children with imbalances that can be with them throughout their lives.

CST can help to correct misalignments and emotional disorders.

CRANIO SACRAL THERAPY is rapidly gaining recognition as one of the most gentle and yet powerful forms of holistic healing.  It is used to detect and correct imbalances in the craniosacral system, which may be the cause of sensory, motor or intellectual dysfunction.

The way the baby lies within the uterus determines the ultimate pattern of the spine, which can create tension, i.e.: -between kneecap and hip. As the baby grows there is less room for it to move and baby can become cramped into postures that could lead to misalignments i.e.: shoulder/arm

The folding of the full-term baby in the uterus creates normal facial tensions, resulting in localized thickenings of connective tissue that will have a bearing upon the alignment and posture of the child, that can also continue into the structure of the adult.

Impacted areas such as between the shoulder blades, or across the top of the pelvis will cause the posture to change and the body will adapt to shoring itself up against stresses of weight and constrictions.

As the baby learns to use its body it has many options. As it grows older, this wide-open range of options narrows in favor of greater precision of movement.

The birth process is an extraordinary condition; the infant is experiencing a total change in environment and has no established ways of dealing with the situation.  New stimuli, because they are new, are magnified in their import both physically and emotionally.  It is a truism of psychology that what we learn under panic conditions is with us for life.

The cultural, rather than physiological, part of the birth process can cause traumatic sensory attack, such as being held upside down under bright lights. This can induce structural contractions or sensory shutdown that may never go away.

Colic is one of the signs that fascia is out of balance.  A distressed or anxious child is another sign of misalignments and emotional trauma.

The craniosacral system consists of the membranes and cerebrospinal fluid that surround and protect the brain and spinal cord.  It extends from the bones of the skull, face and mouth, which make up the cranium, down to the sacrum or tailbone area.

Cranio Sacral Therapy treats people rather than conditions.  It is primarily concerned with creating a healthy balanced state on all levels – physical, mental and emotional

The term “Birth Trauma” has considerable emotional impact. From a physiological point of view the actual passage need not be structurally damaging.  There might be some difficulty because of the size of the head and shoulders, yet this should be transitory.

However a prolonged period of labor may be a source of tension to the newborn.

Treats motor coordination difficulties, eye problems and central nervous system disorders, learning disorders, Traumatic births, forceps, suction delivery and in the birth canal too long.

How does it work?   When treating newborns, in most cases it only takes one or possibly two treatments to realign the body after birth.

The infant lies on a treatment table fully clothed and the Therapist makes gentle contact by placing the hands lightly on the body, as well as the head and spine.

Craniosacral therapy is safe, simple, yet very powerful and effective.  Small movements are made to the head and body to enable the body to realign by itself without trauma to the bones, tissues and ligaments. In the process it helps eliminate symptoms, diseases, dysfunctions and their root causes.

Relaxing and calming to the body, some even feel sleepy during treatment.

For children with learning difficulties, Dyslexia, Dysfraxia, and attention deficit problems etc., it will depend upon how chronic the condition is as to how many treatments would be necessary.

Indian Head massage

Indian head massage involves working with a firm and gentle rhythm to help un-knot blockages and relieve this uncomfortable build-up of tension. Working on particular areas of the body, (neck and shoulders), where stress affects the major muscle groups, can bring immediate relief. Tensions are eased and fibrous knots and nodules melt away.

The efficiency of the circulatory and lymphatic systems improves, toxins are dispersed from tense muscles and flexibility and fluidity of movement is restored. One treatment will lift you out of the stresses of daily life and provide you with a real cure for those aching, tense neck and shoulder muscles. Its effect is not just physical: it works on an emotional level too, relieving stress, soothing, calming and promoting relaxation.

The massage tackles the physical, mental and emotional effects of stress in a unique and particularly effective way. Regular head massage is wonderfully relaxing it enhances the health of the scalp and can help to promote the growth of lustous hair

It is an ideal way to restore homeostasis and feel good all over.

I found Narendra Mehta's book "Indian Head Massage" an excellent introduction.

The technique has been used for over a thousand years originally by Indian women who believed that by massaging their heads with vegetable oils kept their long hair healthy and strong, using different oils according to the season.

Ancient Therapy Indian Head Massage is part of the Ayurvedic massage text dating back 4000 years and was used in conjunction with herbs, spices and aromatic oils.  Massage had an important medical function

Massaging the scalp stimulates the flow of blood to the follicles improving the supply of nutrients needed for healthy hair growth.

It is a non - invasive therapy renowned for relieving symptoms of stress.

Stress causes poor blood flow to these areas together with stress generated muscle tension.  By helping to remove tension from the muscles and head with head massage, not only does hair growth improve but impaired blood flow is improved together with stress - linked problems such as headaches and eyestrain.

How does it work?

Indian head massage involves working with a firm and gentle rhythm to help unknot blockages and relieve this uncomfortable build-up of tension.

Working on particular areas of the body, (neck and shoulders), where stress affects the major muscle groups, can bring immediate relief.

When we take painkillers they block the message to the brain but by treating the core of the problem i.e.: tense muscles - relief can be felt straight away

Tensions are eased and fibrous knots and nodules melt away.

The efficiency of the circulatory and lymphatic systems improves, toxins are dispersed from tense muscles and flexibility and fluidity of movement is restored.

Indulge in an Indian Head massage. With the power of touch let us soothe aching muscles, tension or stress.  Not only will it relax, but the effects of the inner body will increase your circulation.

Its effect is not just physical: it works on an emotional level too, relieving stress, soothing, calming and promoting relaxation.

The massage tackles the physical, mental and emotional effects of stress in a unique and particularly effective way.

An ideal way to restore homeostasis and feel good all over.

Head, neck and shoulders are important energy centers within our body.      By feeling stressed or angry, tension tends to accumulate. This tension can later show up as a stiff neck, shoulders, eye - strain and sometimes even hair loss. With treatment toxins are released flexibility and movement are restored.

The effect of Indian Head massage is not just physical:

It works on an emotional level too.

Relieving stress, soothing, calming and promoting relaxation.

  • Easing Muscle Strain or Injury
  • Improve texture and tone of your skin
  • Improve sleep patterns
  • Reduce tension headaches and migraine
  • Ease Eye Strain
  • Reduce stress and tension
  • Energy increased
  • Improve circulation
  • Improve hair growth

Indian Head massage offers the means by which the individual can begin to get in touch with the healing potential within the hitherto unexplored regions of their inner being and thus become empowered to ensure their own well being.

For a total physical, mental and emotional lift together with a subtle balancing of the Chakra energy - treat yourself to a Champissage session.

The MAGIC of TOUCH

Touch is an instinctive, natural language that we all speak and understand.

It is from this instinctive language of rubbing, holding and comforting that more structured forms of touch have evolved in the form of Therapies with established and defined boundaries.

Touch has the power to affect us on several different levels.

It can physically relax tight muscles and so relieve pain

It can calm tense or troubled emotions making us feel nurtured and cared for.

It can be ENERGIZING as well as RELAXING leaving you feeling REFRESHED and UPLIFTED

When ENERGY is rebalanced, one invariably feels more ALIVE, ENERGIZED, RELAXED and better able to cope with LIFE’S PRESSURES

Indian Head Massage is a safe, simple, yet effective therapy that not only promotes hair growth, but also provides relief from aches and pains and is renowned for relieving symptoms of stress.

It is effective with many disorders :-

  • Unblock Sinus
  • Reducing symptoms of Hay fever

Premenstrual Tension  and Effects of Oestrogen dominance

Premenstrul Tension - For many women it happens every moth like a recurring bad dream – a list of symptoms that make life very uncomfortable.

The most common symptoms of premenstrual tension (PMT) include: -              Abdominal cramping, mood swings, crying spells, irritability, tension, anxiety, fatigue, water retention, headaches, acne breakout, bloating, depression, lower back pain, nausea, breast tenderness and cravings for sugar or chocolate.

An imbalance in the oestrogen-to-progesterone ratio is believed to be a root cause of PMT.  Harsh chemicals and drugs can interfere with the liver’s ability to filter excess oestrogen.

We are digesting more and more oestrogen in our food (because of the steroids given to animals) and in our water as the effects of oestrogen in the birth pill and HRT cannot be filtered out of our water supply.

Unique combinations of nutrients, vitamins and herbs that support hormone balance, reproductive and glandular systems can make improvements to symptoms therefore making the body’s natural changes just part of daily life.

Reflexology is one of the Therapies that is most effective in treating many of the hormonal imbalances that cause women’s disorders.

We can rebalance hormone levels, release tension and reduce stress.

Hormonal balance is essential for correcting oestrogen dominance, - the dominant factor for many female *hormonal imbalances.

*Saliva testing is available.

It activates and realigns systems of the body and works well with: -

Stress management,

Diet improvement,

Vitamin and mineral supplements to help fine-tune the body.

Releasing toxins and environmental pollution from the body.

All this can help to put you back in control of your body in a healthy way.

Anxiety and stress can be experienced within any part of the mind/body complex, depending upon our own innate physical and emotional constitution.   One common problem is the weakening of the immune defence system, resulting in fatigue, and susceptibility to every passing infection and allergy.  Stress and anxiety can also trigger skin problems, or exacerbate an existing condition such as acne and eczema.  It can also play havoc with the endocrine and reproductive systems, manifesting perhaps as severe PMS, low fertility in men and women, thyroid dysfunction, maturity onset, diabetes and a whole host of other complaints.

For more information of stress see SER and cellular healing page.

The physiological effects of Oestrogen and Progesterone:

Oestrogen dominance is the main factor for many female hormonal imbalances.  It is the unopposed oestrogen that triggers the symptoms of PMS. For women in the peri-menopausal phase this is often the reason for them to start experiencing PMS as they are not ovulating every month and therefore their cycle is oestrogen dominant.   It is helpful to have a temperature chart for each day of your cycle to check whether you are ovulating.

By taking your temperature first thing in the morning, before drinking, you will know if you are ovulating by the temperature fluctuation.  If you are not ovulating you do not produce progesterone.  Women will always produce oestrogen even if they have had their ovaries removed because oestrogen also comes from the adrenal glands and adipose tissue.  During the menopause Mother nature, lowers oestrogen levels and ceases progesterone production, so women will still be oestrogen dominant.

Oestrogen Effects:                   Progesterone Effects:

Stimulates endometrium              Maintains endometrium

Breast stimulation                      Protects against breast fibrocysts

Increases body fat                     Help’s burn fat for energy

There has been a lot of news reports and news items about HRT

Should women take it or not? Does it have benefits or not?

Women are getting very confused

I have had my own conclusions for many years now. I came across a report The question is –where do we go from here? Dr Lee’s viewpoint is that we should go back to basics and find out where our mistake is.

In his practice he noticed symptoms that did not seem right when patients were taking HRT. He came to the conclusion with his own trials that when we are on the menopause we need to balance oestrogen with progesterone. The hormone supplements need to be natural products and not synthetic.  In Dr. Lee’s opinion - It is the synthetic products that seem to be the cause of the disorders and symptoms.

He has written several books on the subject that are well worth a read. (“What your doctor may not tell you about the menopause”,

“What your doctor may not tell you about pre-menopause” & “What your doctor may not tell you about breast cancer”).

*His views on recent reports are as follows …

The recent Lancet publication of the Million Women Study (MWS) removes any lingering doubt that there’s something wrong with conventional HRT.  Why would supplemental oestrogen and a little progesterone (other than real progesterone) increase a woman’s risk of breast cancer by 30%?  Other studies found that these same HRT hormones increase one’s risk of heart disease and blood clots (strokes) and do nothing for preventing Alzheimer’s disease.

When you pass through puberty and your sex hormones surge, it does not make you sick (unhealthy) – they cause your body to mature into adulthood and be healthy.

But the hormones used in conventional HRT are somehow not right – they are killing women.

*For a complete transcript you can send a SAE plus £1.00

Dr Lee suggests that a *transdermal progesterone cream is more natural for our bodies and ingested naturally through the skin.

*Further information about progesterone cream and saliva testing is available through Omega Therapies.

Dr Lee has adopted three simple rules covering hormone supplements and when the rules are followed, women have a decreased risk of breast cancer, heart attacks or strokes. They are much less likely to get fat or have poor sleep, short - term memory loss, fibrocystic breasts, mood disorders or libido problems.

1) Give hormones only to those who are truly deficient in them

Common sense don’t you think.  We don’t give insulin, thyroid, or cotisol to someone unless we have good evidence they need it.

Yet conventional physicians routinely prescribe estrogen or other sex hormones without ever testing for hormone deficiency.  It is just assumed that women after menopause are estrogen deficient.

25 years ago Dr Lee did his own review on hormone levels before and after menopause and all authorities agreed that over two-thirds  (66%) of women up to 80 continue to make all the estrogen they need.  Since then the evidence has only grown stronger.

Even with ovaries removed, women still make oestrogen.  Women with plenty of body fat can make more estrogen after menopause than skinny women.

Some breast cancer specialists are so worried, that they are giving patients drugs to block estrogen, while their colleagues are continuing to prescribe it for a presumed hormone deficiency.

How do you know if you are estrogen deficient? Vaginal dryness and vaginal mucosal atrophy are clear signs.

2) Use bio-identical hormones rather than synthetic hormones.

Synthetic hormones’ molecules differ in molecular configuration from endogenous (made in the blood) hormones.

From studies of petrochemical xeon-hormones, we learn that substitute synthetic hormones differ in their activity at the receptor level.   In some cases they will activate the receptor in a manner similar to the natural hormone, but in other cases the synthetic hormone will have no effect or will block the receptor completely.

Synthetic hormones can be patented.   Patented drugs are more profitable than non-patented drugs and sex hormone prescription sales make more money for pharmaceutical companies than any other prescription drug.

Women’s Health is sacrificed for commercial profit.

 3) Use only in dosages that provide normal physiologic tissue levels.

Everyone would agree, I think, that dosages of hormone supplements should restore normal physiologic levels.  The question is – how do you define normal physiologic levels?

Hormones do not work just by floating around in circulating blood: they work by slipping out of blood capillaries to enter cells that have the proper receptors in them.   Protein-bound hormones are unable to leave blood vessels and bond with intracellular receptors. Serum tests do not help you measure the “free” bio-available form of the hormone. The answer is saliva testing.

Simply compare saliva tests of healthy people with saliva tests of women with breast cancer.

If physicians did that they would find that cancer victims estrogen dosages are 8-10 times greater than found in normal healthy people.  They would also note that progesterone levels are not raised by giving supplements of synthetic progestagen such as medroxyprogesterone acetate (MPA).

Further, saliva levels (not serum levels) of progesterone will clearly demonstrate excellent absorption of progesterone from transdermal creams.

Transdermal progesterone cream is natural a natural progesterone.

Transdermal progesterone enters the blood stream fully bioavailable (without protein bound).  The progesterone increase is readily apparent in saliva testing, whereas serum will show little or no change.

Saliva testing helps to determine optimal dosages of supplemented steroid hormones; something that serum testing cannot do.

Other factors

Hormone imbalance is not the only cause of breast cancer, strokes, and heart attacks.  Other risk factors are of importance including: -

Poor diet (excess sugar and refined starches, trans-fatty acids, lack of needed nutrients such as omega-3 full range of essential amino acids, vitamins, minerals etc.,)

Environmental xenoestrogens and hormones not removed by water treatment plants.

Insulin resistance

Stress

Lifestyle problems (poor sleep, melatonin deficiency, alcohol, cadmium (cigarette smoking) and birth control pills during early teens

Men share these risks equally with women.

Hormone imbalance and exposure of these risk factors in men leads to earlier heart attacks, lower sperm counts and a higher prostate cancer risk.

Conclusion

Conventional hormone replacement therapy (HRT) composed of either estrone or estradiol, with or without progestagens (excluding progesterone) carries an unacceptable risk of breast cancer, heart attacks, and strokes.  A more rational HRT using bio-identical hormones in dosages based on true needs as determined by saliva testing is proposed.

In addition to proper hormone balancing, other important risk factors are described, all of which are potentially correctable.

Combining hormone balancing with correction of other environmental and life style factors is our best hope for reducing the present risks of breast cancer, strokes and heart attacks.

A much broader discussion of all these factors can be found in his book “ What your doctor may not tell you about breast cancer”

*Further information about progesterone cream and saliva testing is available through Omega Therapies.

No synthetic hormone provides the same total physiologic activity as the natural hormone it is intended to replace and all synthetic hormones will provoke undesirable side effects not found with the human hormone. i.e. human insulin is preferable to pig insulin.

Sex hormones identical to human (bi-identical) hormones have been available for over 50 years.

Pharmaceutical companies, however, prefer synthetic hormones.

Candida and Thrush

CANDIDA, YEAST INFECTION MONILLA AND THRUSH

Candida Albicans:  under normal circumstances there is a carefully controlled balance of yeasts and bacteria in our gastrointestinal tract or on our bodies, which acts to maintain health.  Candida albicans are a normal part of ecology of the skin, digestive tract and vagina.  It only becomes a problem when an uncontrolled overgrowth occurs, as a result of a disruption to the body’s natural immunity and bacterial balance.

Common sites for an obvious thrush or Candida overgrowth are warm moist areas such as: - Vagina, Mouth, Intestines, Urinary tract (frequent cause of cystitis) Skin folds (in overweight people.) Anything that imbalances the “Friendly bacteria” in our colon will allow yeast to proliferate. Antibiotics can wipe out our entire colony of friendly bacteria and leave the yeast intact.

Yeast feeds on sugar - Growth promoted by Dietary Yeast from Bread, vegemite, alcohol and other fermented products.

Environmental - Fungi and mould found in damp bathrooms or house foundations will promote the problem. Women suffer more than men.

Symptoms: -

Yeast infection, recurrent Thrush or Cystitis and Chronic Tiredness

Inability to lose weight, depression, anxiety, allergies, uncontrollable mood swings, fluid retention, premenstrual syndrome, diarrhoea, constipation, poor energy.

All are Hypoglycaemics, which results in sugar cravings. Diabetics also suffer – high blood sugar

Chronic skin problems i.e.: - Acne and dermatitis.

Sufferers can experience one or a number of these symptoms.

Severe infection can result in quite neurotic and even schizophrenic behaviour. The cause has only been exposed in the last 10 years. Despite findings and evidence in support, many medical practitioners refuse to accept that Candidiasis even exists.

This is a tragedy as those who suffer the serious symptoms are often directed to the psychiatrist for their “mental disorder”.

Signs and symptoms:  Oral or vaginal Candidiasis can be identified by the characteristic white clumps of yeast, often alongside some degree of inflammation and irritation.  In the vagina it is often accompanied by a white discharge.

The toxins from chronic Candidiasis may affect the entire body and can result in a wide range of symptoms.

Lacto bacteria keep yeast in check – without this yeast takes a hold.

A root structure develops and burrows through the walls of intestinal mucosa in search or nutrients, allowing proteins to enter the blood stream.

Yeast produces 80 different toxins.  10 are proven neurotoxins.

  • Progesterone favours the growth of yeast.
  • Susceptible people have a low resistance.
  • Having a poor diet and high antibiotic use will increase the activity of the condition.  Especially Antibiotics and steroid use
  • Poor resistance will result in a degree of food and chemical intolerance.
  • The Pill or hormonal treatment cortisone (HRT) will make it worse.

Debilitating symptoms will develop causing chronic tiredness and vaginal infection

  • Thrush or cystitis,
  • Mood swings and PMS
  • Sugar cravings,
  • Bloating, flatulence and allergies. IBS, Diarrhoea
  • Skin problems
  •  Inability to lose weight
  • Depression, lethargy and hyperactivity
  • ME symptoms
  • Athletes foot / fungal nail infections
  • Sinusitis
  • Hypoglycaemia
  • Chronic illness.

With Chronic systemic Candidiasis, schizophrenic behaviour may develop.

Anti-Candida programme

I see a lot of people with a candida condition in my practice.  I use a range of products and a protocol that gets the best results.

Yeast is virtually indestructible- using Antifungal drugs will depend on whether the candida is simply confined to the digestive system or if it has migrated to other areas of the body.  It is important to:-

  • STOP FEEDING YEAST – a yeast and sugar exclusion diet

·        SUPPORT THE IMMUNE, LIVER and DIGESTIVE systems.

  • CREATE A FAVOURABLE ENVIRONMENT IN THE BOWELS – healing the gut and supporting the gut membrane.

Some of the symptoms, which may be a sign of parasitic infections in adults, are as follows: - Anemia,    Joint Aches & pains,   Anorexia,    Lethargy,   Arthritis,     Low Back Pain,    Auto Immune Disease,      Malabsorption,    Bloody stools,         Rectal bleeding,     Distention & bloating,     Rash & itching of the skin,       Irritable Bowel Syndrome,     Weight loss,      Food Allergy,                                Diarrhoea

And many more signs …………..

In children signs may include: - Bedwetting,  Itchy rectum, nose and ears, drooling or grinding of teeth whilst asleep,   dry lips during the day.

Detox

Refresh and Balance you Body,  & Soul with Bio Detox foot spa, cleanse the kidneys, liver, blood and lymph systems all at once

Bio Detox is the perfect way to detoxify and re-balance the body with no need for a starvation diet, or exhausting exercise programme.

Modern day living, stress and diet can introduce toxins into the body.  We breathe in toxins in the air we breathe daily.  This can cause imbalance in the cells

A treatment takes 30 minutes and the client sits back and relaxes as the apparatus produces a frequency that gently resonates through the body and stimulates all the cells within it.

It has the effect of stimulating the lymph and circulation, rebalancing cellular energy,

This allows the cells to electrically rebalance enabling them to perform more efficiently and release any build up of toxins in the body.

Detox treatment helps with dysfunctional Lymph or the effects of Lymphodema and circulation also releases build up of toxins from the muscles. Especially good for body balance and helps athleates in their training programmes

It helps to remove long-term effects of Anaesthetics etc., and also helps alleviate allergies and colon problems. Sometimes a course of treatments would be advisable

To find out more see below.  To book an appointment or for more information contact  Joy Constable

How does the Detox work?

Bio Detox is an unusual therapy, based on the research of the medical scientist Dr Royal Rife, and is a type of aqua and bio detoxing

It aims to improve, among other things, liver and kidney function through an electro-magnetic detoxification process carried out on the feet.

By balancing the body’s Bio-energy – the use of controlled, low frequency, direct electrical currents in the treatment of a variety of diseases and injuries is well established and widely understood.

In terms of Bioelectricity, the cells of a healthy human organism have a negative potential of between 70-90 milivolts

Within this range of potential, nutritional absorption and discharge of toxic waste are efficient.  However, the negative potential of a stressed or injured cell can measure as little as 10-12 millivolts, and in this situation both nutritional absorption and the discharge of toxic waste are poor.

Such a condition can occur suddenly as a result of an accident, or can develop more slowly as a result of progressive build up of positive ions due to the effects of modern day lifestyles i.e.: diets, stress and anxiety or the effect of a toxic environment i.e.: fumes from cars, sprays, pesticides, and household products etc.,

If the energy balance of the body is disturbed in this way, it is necessary to detect and correct it.

The treatment is given by placing your feet in water in which an “array” will be activated.  The feet have an enormous number of pores - in the order of 2000 in each foot. There are also a lot of Lymph pathways in the feet and this offers a point of application that is both efficient and convenient.

As soon as the apparatus is switched on, gas bubbles form around the electrodes indicating that an electrolytic reaction is taking place.  This will happen without any part of the body being in contact with the water: liberated gases will clearly be seen.

The water in the footbath becomes an extension of the water in the body, from which it is separated by nothing more substantial than a thin membrane – the skin.

A treatment takes 30 minutes and the client sits back and relaxes as the apparatus produces a frequency that gently resonates through the body and stimulates all the cells within it.

It has the effect of stimulating the lymph and circulation, rebalancing cellular energy.

This allows the cells to electrically rebalance enabling them to perform more efficiently and release any build up of toxins in the body.

Detoxing is good for the body, helping the liver, lymph and kidneys to function properly.

We are what we eat/take: caffeine, alcohol, smoking and drugs. These create toxins in the body and major organs will become overloaded.

The detox treatment helps with dysfunctional Lymph or the effects of Lymphodema, circulation and releases a build up of toxins from the muscles.

It helps to remove long-term effects of Anaesthetics etc.,

Detoxing helps alleviate allergies and colon problems and with releasing the effects of long - term medication.

It helps with releasing the effects of alcohol and smoking abuse.

Detoxing can also help with cellulite disorders.

MSM

James Coburn, actor and star of many films (including ‘The Magnificent Seven’), suffered so badly in the early 80s with arthritis that he was forced to give up acting and became housebound. He said the pain was so great that it made him sweat just to stand up.

Then he was introduced to MSM and it changed his life and health.

In taking MSM daily his condition improved so much that he was able to return to acting (in non strenuous roles) for a further 20 years.

As a keen ambassador for MSM he spoke about it many times on TV and at conventions. (As shown on BSkyB Biography channel)

MSM has shown significant proven results in the treatment of arthritis, allergies, burns, constipation, anxiety, stress, and memory loss.

It is an organic mineral that has also been shown to dramatically slow down the growth rate of certain cancers

Can’t believe it?  MSM has over 34 years of clinical trials to prove it.  With research from Universities and clinical research involving over 12000 patients.

Research or clinical experience so far suggests that MSM may be an appropriate food supplement for people suffering the following complaints: -

Acne                             Allergies                     Arthritis

Asthma                        Breast cancer            Brittle nails

Burns                            Cramps                       Constipation

MSM is Natural

MSM stands for Methyl Sulphonyl Methane.

It is a naturally occurring nutrient, an organic sulphur compound that is found in the normal human diet and in the diet of virtually all other animals.

Sulphur is present in all living organisms.

It actually belongs in the same chemical family that includes oxygen.

Organisms that live in environments where there is no oxygen, such as some bacteria, often replace oxygen with sulphur as their source of energy.

Without sulphur, life as we know it would not exist.

Some of the essential functions that sulphur gives us include:

Maintaining the structure of the body’s proteins

Helping the formation of keratin essential for hair and nails

Aiding production of immunoglobulins for the immune system

Triggering reactions which change food into energy

Neutralising or eliminating toxins from the body.

MSM lessens inflammation, reduces pain, improves blood supply and lowers muscle spasm in inflammation or in any painful condition, such as tennis elbow or carpal tunnel syndrome.

How safe is MSM?

Dr Stanley Jacob has found that MSM is one of the least toxic substances in biology and medicine. MSM is similar in toxicity to clean water.

Common table salt is more toxic than MSM

To be sure that MSM is safe Dr Jacob has taken MSM for 20 years without any side effects.  Prior to taking MSM he used to have a cold or flu two or three times a year.  He has not had a single cold or flu in the 20 years he has been taking MSM

Any Side effects?

MSM is very safe and has no side effects.

Furthermore it has a detoxifying effect on the body as a whole.  In the first few days and weeks of taking MSM the body is going to undertake quite a lot of spring-cleaning and rebuilding.  In the course of this you may experience a few healing symptoms.

Some experience an itchy skin for instance which is then replaced by a younger smoother skin.

You may feel twinges from old injuries in joints and muscles as they undergo repair

Eyes may temporarily seem a little more blurred

Any symptoms such as these are probably indicators that MSM is working

 Where is MSM found?

The cycle is started in the ocean in microscopic plants called plankton.

These release sulphur compounds into the ocean water which are then released up into the atmosphere. Here they are converted into atmospheric sulphur that falls back to earth in the rain. Plants take up MSM very rapidly into their root systems and concentrate it one hundred fold. MSM is incorporated into the plant’s structure and normally we humans can then absorb it from the fruit and vegetables that we consume. Eventually MSM finds its way back to the sea and the sulphur cycle starts again.

Today, however, we are processing too many foods, which reduces the MSM content, and we may be getting less MSM into our bodies than we require.  MSM levels do diminish in our bodies with advancing age.

Dr Stanley Jacob, having studied 12000 people, believes that almost everyone is deficient, but with age the deficiency grows more pronounced.

MSM has been used for years by vets, treating horses and animals for pain.  MSM cream can be used for burns and skin problems as well as taking it orally.

Pain and Arthritis research

People have found relief from pain due to arthritis. Father Sam Bungo of Pennsylvania suffered from bursitis and arthritic symptoms in his knees and shoulder.

“A lot of the time I would get up in the morning and have to go downstairs very slowly, one step at a time”. After one year of taking MSM he says, “ Now I have no trouble with my knees”.

Sulphur concentration in arthritic cartilage has been shown to be about one-third the level found in normal cartilage.  Dr Stanley Jacob studied the development of joint problems similar to those seen in rheumatoid arthritis.  He found that animals that were given MSM in their drinking water suffered no degeneration of articular cartilage, while 50% given plain tap water to drink developed major degeneration of the cartilage, similar to the condition ‘rheumatoid arthritis’ in man.

Taking MSM by skin and by mouth tends to improve tennis elbow, carpal funnel syndrome and bursitis etc.,

MSM lessens inflammation, reduces pain, improves blood supply and lowers muscle spasm in inflammation or in any painful condition, such as tennis elbow or carpal tunnel syndrome i.e.: in the wrist.

Carpal tunnel syndrome is becoming more prominent as everyone is using computers and are repeatedly injuring the median nerve in the wrist.

 Muscle pain and weakness

Polymyalgia rheumatic and fibromyalgia – diseases characterised by muscle weakness and pain.

A 72 year old was given prednisone, a hormone to treat her Polymyalgia rheumatic and fibromyalgia but it made her health worse.  She contacted Dr Jacob and he put her on MSM “I was pretty close to being an invalid” she says

“Now I am doing my own washing, ironing, baking and cooking.  MSM is a pretty marvellous thing”.

Help for Arteries

Evidence shows that MSM may help prevent the narrowing of the arteries that causes heart attack and stroke, two major causes of death.

Dr Jacob’s team gave 20 rabbits a high cholesterol diet and added MSM to the diet of 10 of them.  In all the rabbits, serum cholesterol levels went up very high, but the animals given MSM did not develop any fat in the arteries.  They now plan to follow this up with a human study.

Slowing Cancer

MSM seems to be slowing down breast and colon cancer. Trials have shown that animals given MSM developed cancer equivalent to a human 10year life cycle – i.e., it would take 10 additional years before cancer develops.  Studies of Colon cancer gave similar results.

The team also observed that the tumours shrank with MSM although they did not disappear.  Since there are many inflammations of the colon in man such as ulcerative colitis, where the incidence of development of cancer is quite high, Dr Jacob believes that these patients should be given MSM orally as a preventative.

Clearing Parasites

MSM has anti-parasitic properties.  Two parasites have so far been studied.  The most common parasite in the gastro-intestinal tract is called Giardia.  It causes poor absorption of nutrition in humans and is the most frequent cause of water-carried diarrhoea.

MSM is quit effective when given orally in controlling symptoms and fighting the organism.

Many women complain of yeast infections that are caused by a parasite called Trichomonas.    The symptoms include itching and increased discharge, which may be malodorous and discoloured.

Both topical and oral MSM have been found affective in treating this problem.

Anxiety, Stress and Short Term Memory.

MSM appears to influence mood and brain function too.

Dr Jacob says “ In just about every disease there is an increased level of stress and anxiety, and this of course takes all disease more serious and diminishes the chance of any mediation or any treatment regime reducing the problems with that particular disease.   We have found that MSM itself taken orally helps reduce stress. Interestingly, if you add a little bit of Vitamin E (400 units per day) to the MSM you get even more reduction of stress, but MSM itself does not reduce stress.  There is some reduction of depression too”.

Dr Jacob has been doing trials on dementia – the loss of short-term memory, and has seen some improvement.

On the other end of the scale students on MSM have reported an increased ability to concentrate and greater calmness

Hair Skin and Nails

Between early and late adulthood the growth of finger and toe nails decreases by 30-50% and nails also become thick and brittle as we age.  MSM increases the growth rate and combats the brittleness of nails.

MSM also increase the rate of hair growth and tends to give it a more normal feeling.

MSM actually softens skin, acting as a moisturiser.  It protects against drying of the skin caused by harsh water.

MSM for LUNGS

MSM is showing itself as an important food supplement for those with lung difficulties

Studies show that MSM helps with asthma and chronic obstructive lung disease.

Patients with emphysema were given MSM.  After just 4 weeks they had at least doubled the distance they were able to walk.  The fluid on their lungs also disappeared

Diabetes

A common condition brought on in part by poor metabolism resulting in excess blood sugar and lack of insulin, or a cell resistance to insulin.   Studies suggest that taking MSM regularly (a minimum of 2 grams a day) causes the cells to become more permeable, improving pancreatic function (where insulin is produced).

Diabetics are advised to let their doctor know if they are taking MSM as their need for insulin may be reduced.

EYES

Reports suggest that MSM may help reduce or prevent cataracts by improving the permeability of the membranes in the eyes

MSM has also been noted to improve blurred vision, bloodshot eyes, red spots and floaters.
